Hey guys,

greetings from Germany. After reading sometime as a guest i decided to register and participate - great forum here. I drived different cars in the past mostly Audis and BMWs but somehow time was right for something different.

So after some (lots) investigations and some test driving i ordered a black Cayman GTS with manual transmission. I also replaced the Alcantara interior with black Sportex. Car will be delivered around 02.2019 so there is enough time for discussions, suggestions and ideas. This is the first Porsche for me - so excitement is growing and as you well know time is passing by SLOWLY .....

What do think? Will the GTS look better in black or GT-silver? Still struggling a little with this one ;)

Zuerst: Wilkommen!

Now (reverting back to English since my German is waaaay rusty): I think the black-vs.-lighter color question is a universal one, in that it'll depend on how often you wash the GTS and how diligently you maintain the exterior (coatings, wax, etc.) Black cars look fantastic when they're babied. When they're not ... less so.

That said (and being an owner of a nearly-black Night Blue Metallic 718), the lines of the 718 lend themselves nicely to colors that 'pop' a little more than the typical car. I'd personally go for GT Silver -- I've had several black cars, with varying degrees of success in keeping them sharp-looking -- but I don't baby my car to the extent some others do.

Welcome....color is a tough choice....kinda like PDK vs. Manual. My last car was black, but if I had to choose between the two, I would go with GT silver. I also went with the manual and alcantara delete.

Hi there

First time poster here as well, I look to be putting money on the table today for a GTS and was tossing up between GT Silver and Carrera White. Have decided on the white.
As nice as black can be, it is way too much maintenance for me but if you are up for it why not.

I have GT silver on my CGTS and am delighted with the colour

I did not want the alcantara either - sportex looks and feels great but I have 2 tone leather and am very happy with the choice

it is a great car and you will love it but man the next 3 months will drag for you

Welcome @C718GTS and @Beardy. The car is the star, the colour, like the suit maketh it and is very personal - as it occurs to me. GT Silver, Carrara White and (Jet) Black are colours which don't scream, look at me. I would have a browse around an OPC and see what you like best - if you are near one clearly. Seeing it in the metal will help you decide hopefully. The whole optioning process is good fun. It also makes the time fly by.

My last 3 Caymans have been - Black, Mahogany Metallic, now Night Blue Metallic. My first two were - Guards Red and Carrera White. As you can see, I tend to lean towards the darker shades. I like the way the black details blend with the color and make for an almost monochromatic look then contrasted by silver wheels and, my most recent Cayman, silver trim around the windows. I have had a large number of compliments on the Mahogany and now Night Blue. My two cents.

When did you order the car? My manual GTS will be here March/April it was ordered in July.
Hello Cupra - thx for your feedback - i signed the order in 09.2018 - delivery will be by the end of 02.2019.
Here in Germany the Porsch Dealers have quotes for certain cars and certain months - so it matched because there was an available quote for February. I do not know how the handle it in Belgium.

By the way: Nice Configuration you did ;)

Thank you C718GTS :D
Had a LOT of time adding more options while waiting...
When I orderd there were no quotes for manuals only pdk, in December the dealer can send in my config. Was nice to hear German dealers seem to have quote's available for manuals, because of the car configurators in europe are no longer showing manual transmission available.
Got a code for your config? Want to have a peek at yours 2 ;)

WoW Quite maxed out - cool!
I reconfigured mine -> PK8IQHH1
At the moment it shows PDK (i have the MT) - the Configurator will not offer MT before January or so i guess.
Mine is quite Basic when i see your Conf ...
Concerning the dealer quote -> they had a "general GTS quote" and could order GTS with MT - at least this i was told.
Happy waiting ;)

Nice blacked out config, mean beast!
Will this be a daily driver? I'm asking because I see you are staying with the standard bi-xenon headlights. This forum totally convinced me to go with the upgraded ones if you do alot of night drives/daily driving in our euro weather ;)
Thx the long wait will be very rewarding, I'm planning a 15 passes in 4 day's trip for the break in.

It works like this is all european countries. They can change and swap quotes however.
And before the production stop of this summer all orders prior to a certain date would be honored. I ordered my car 2 days before the order deadline. Ordered in May, delivery in July.:D

Switzerland, Italy, Austria not sure I'll manage it in four day's, planning on avoiding highway roads (from Belgium to Mullhouse I'm taking the 'Bison Futé ') but I'll try :)
Any experience yourself ? All info is welcome.

I would go before the cyclists are out again and feel like they are completing the Giro d'Italia or whatever tour the country hosts. Cyclists needs to be respected but they are a nuisance.

One of my last tours was memorable for all the right reasons. One day stands out and the route started in northern Austria and ended the same day in Bormio in Italy.

Overnight stay (Austria) in or around Imst.
Pre-breakfast run (06.00 run) Hahntenjoch pass (both ways, i.e. returning to Imst)
Breakfast in Imst village or drive onwards to Timmesljoch pass
Visit Car / Motorbike Museum on Austrian side of Timmelsjoch and have breakfast / brunch.

Cross border into Italy drive Italian side
Follow routes to:
- San Leonardo In Passiria
Drive towards Vipiteno / Sterzing
- Follow SS508 back towards Pennes / Pens and onwards to Bolzano
- Follow SS42 and drive Pianizza di Sopra / Oberplanitzing and Mendola passes
- drive north on SS238 to Merano and go west on the SS38 in Merano and drive the Stelvio pass to Bormio.
- End in Bormio

This route takes you over 7 mountain passes of which the Stelvio descent into Bormio is a spectacle not to be missed. I did this route with a Macan which is like a 10 ton truck in places compared to the Cayman / Boxster.

There are some beautiful passes in Austrian, Italian and Swiss border areas. I tend to avoid the Swiss motorway system with the car. Mainly because unlike Austria you can’t buy a short stay motorway pass and the Swiss police are humourless - NB in switzerland when passing the "winter" barriers no police controls are in place and they don't really mind what you get up to as long as you keep it real. Within Austria you can drive some seriously nice loops from a central point where you might park yourself for a couple of nights.

I will be planning something again late August / early September 2019 which will include some car manufacturing plants in Germany and Italy. I might even do a tour of the Leipzig Porsche plant again if only for a couple of hours on their track.

Good luck and keep us posted
