Hello All,

Glad to be here. I've been looking for months at online videos, text, forums, etc... Have not pulled the trigger yet, but am looking at an order that will arrive June 2018 (60th birthday!), but I have a few questions, please. First, I'm looking at the base in agate grey exterior and interior, PDK, exhaust, 20 inch, and flat painted rims. I know, I know, monotone, but I find this combination to be stealthy and not flashy. Has anyone seen this combination and how does it look? Also wondering if most dealers in the U.S. are negotiable or if the price is what it is? If negotiable, it would be interesting to know how much they have come down just so I have a benchmark. BTW, I live in Florida and there are 3 dealerships within 90 miles, so if I can negotiate it might be worth a couple of road trips.

Welcome. Sounds like a nice build and a memorable birthday gift. Don't know that I've seen Agate with black wheels, but I have not seen a combination that doesn't look good.

It seems most buyers are getting anywhere between 3% - 6% (some better, some worse) of MSRP.

Do you live in South Florida? If so I know Champion Porsche in Pompano usually gives a 2% discount off the MSRP if you build a car and 5% off MSRP if you buy a car they have in stock. The Collection in Coral Gables won't give any discounts and they are difficult to work with and find them to be a bit snooty. West Broward Porsche is a new dealership and I'm not sure how much of a discount they will offer, but I have heard good things about them. I also plan on getting a Porsche Boxster around June 2018 for my 40th birthday, thinking of base model in Guards Red with black interior and 20 inch Carrera S wheels.

Thanks all. EyeMD1, actually I live near Daytona so would be looking at Maitland, Ocala, and Jax. The configurator confounds me continually - too many choices. All colors, options look so good! Just a matter of how much you want to spend...

Would like to know what kind of discount you end up getting. My better half has a Miami blue Cayman and we were able to get 5% off the MSRP. The color is gorgeous. I borrow it sometimes and love it so much that I decided to get a Boxster, so we will have the best of both worlds, a hard top and a convertible.

I don't know how much the dealerships have been willing to negotiate on the 718's, but folks on the Macan Forum have consistently been getting 8% discounts on ordered cars by shopping around, and buying out-of-state in some cases. The dealerships in Atlanta and some in Florida have traditionally offered the best discounts.

I got about 4.5% off msrp over email and I didn't really negotiate at all. I started there and was firm as I thought it was a fair discount and wasn't looking to squeez every penny from them (I usually do, but didn't want to go through the song and dance this time). They countered and I didn't respond to the counter. I waited 20 min and they emailed back and said okay on my initial offer. I was pretty pleased because it was fairly hassle free. This was in Dallas where we have 3 Porsche dealers, so I'm sure that helped. I believe sales are a little slow right now, so that helped too.

Same experience, same area (Dallas) -- except that I scored 5% off MSRP without even an eye blink and no hint at another financial commitment (financing, trade-in, etc.). I basically said, "Considering Cayman sales are down more than 30 percent and that a typical MSRP discount is 5 percent, would you sell me the car for $xx,xxx?" I received an immediate yes via email, and have a sales sheet that locks the price for my ordered car.

@Nlongfellow , ping me via PM and let me know which dealer you're using in the area. Knowing that you're having trouble with obtaining an Order Sheet via another thread, I can help shed some light on what I know about the area's three dealers.

mama doesn't buy it!

OK, I'll admit it, my wife and I wear the same pants... She, maybe more than me, has more pants than me! She doesn't/hates the prospect of the purchase of the 718. Its an uphill battle for me. I know most of you don't face this struggle. Money is not an issue, mostly practicality - Honda's and Toyota's our entire life. Any suggestions on subtle hints would be appreciated. :|

I have my car and my wife has hers so we get to decide what's best for each other (within reason). With that said, my wife was previously against any 2 seat sports car when our son was younger because it wasn't practical. I had a European convertible when my son was born and I had to trade it in because it made no sense. Now that our son is almost driving age, we don't drive as much as a family (usually just two of us are out and about together - me and my son, or me and my wife). So a 2 seater is now viewed as "okay" by my wife because we'll always have her car which will seat all of us and we are rarely driving as a group these days. So I finally got to check the "practical" box in my situation. Not sure if that applies to you, but it may.

In addition though (moving maintenance costs aside), it's a very practical car. Really great gas mileage, surprising cargo space for Costco runs and all in a super fun package (really is). So why not enjoy driving if you have to drive? That's what I would say. You can add stress relief, mid-life crisis therapy, or simply you have to enjoy life every once in a while as some back-up reasons. I'm 44 and came to the conclusion of "why not" when I ordered mine. I'm not getting younger, any car purchase over 25k isn't really "practical", and I'm not going to buy my first sports car when I'm 75 when I FINALLY have no reasons to not buy one. So, I come from the place of "why not, you only live once" as the most important reason to get a 718! Hope that helps!

Thanks Nlongfellow,

I appreciate your input and understanding. Child is long gone and I'm in the "why not" camp - I'm nearly 60 and won't be able to stoop to get in one for much longer! I'll keep working on wife. Thinking that an auto train trip with the new car to northeast and on to southeast Canada may help my case (she's wanted to go there for a while). I think once she gets in the car and drives it, she will be convinced it was a good decision - she generally has a heavier foot than I do!

Now there's the real sales pitch for you--get her out for a long test drive. If she likes driving and a responsive car, she'll be sold. Hey, it worked for me--half-an-hour and I was ready to put in an order.

My husband and I are a young couple, and we both wanted this car badly. We built dozens of versions on the configurator together for fun but have opposite priorities with it. As a mechanical engineer, his concerns are performance-based, and as a shallow woman, my focus is on how a car looks, how it sounds, and how luxurious it feels. In bed at night, he listens to different engine sounds on youtube, and I see how happy it makes him. Anyway, the 718 is all of those things we cared about.

However, we were in disagreement about a few performance options, but he ultimately got to add the sport chrono package (the utility of which I don't understand) because ...while cleaning his ears under pressure, I accidentally punctured his ear drum, causing stabbing pain that brought him to tears. I'm a physician. I felt horrible.

We had already placed our order for the 2018 Cayman, and I told him to email the SA to add sport chrono ASAP. Since then, my husband smiles every time he talks about the antibiotics/steroids, the eardrum patch he required, the follow-up ENT appointments, etc. and best of all, his hearing is now back to normal. Come to think of it, I now remember that he planted the sport chrono idea by casually mentioning that his coworker said I owed him it.

I think we are both happy to have compromised with no permanent injury. I guess I am recommending to appeal to your wife's guilt and maybe allowing some physical harm to yourself.

I do believe this deserves about 10 funny responses, but it may depend on one's definition of funny. I'll try:

Engine sounds huh...if it was a wail, it was probably a 981, if it was a growl, it was probably a 718, if it wasn't an engine, it was probably youporn. >:D

"he ultimately got to add the sport chrono package...because ...I accidentally punctured his ear drum...appeal to your wife's guilt"

I tried the guilt approach - I told my wife that her cooking skills are miserable and I dread having to eat what she prepares. I then told her she could make it up to me by letting me buy a Ferrari. Didn't work, I only got a Boxster. :crying:
