Recent New York transplant to the Steel City ( I do still have a place in NYC and travel back, but this is home now). Bought car for a second mid-life crisis. First was a 350Z after my divorce in 2004. Still have the Z for sentimental reasons :) The recent purchase is a manual 2018 BGTS in GT Silver from an out of state Porsche dealer. Came with 9700+ miles from one previous owner.

So far I'm loving everything about the car except the sound from the four banger. The VQ 6 in the Z sounds sweet in comparison. Wish the new ride sounded even close, but I do have a Fabspeed cat back exhaust coming my way and hope that changes things. I already pulled the fuse on the sound annoyance or what ever it's called, based on info found right here in the forums. Man what a silly idea that thing is. I drive based on the sound of the engine as well as what the gauges are telling me. The odd ambient noise that sound module made was very distracting. So removing the fake sound from the equation has certainly helped.

Congratulations! Looks great. I love the black wheels, and matching roll bars. I've got to swap out my amber sides for clears.

I picked up my base Boxster day before yesterday. I'm okay with the sound (considering). I think Porsche tweaked the exhaust for 2019, so although I was expecting to have to pull the fuse, I haven't yet found the need. I just wish I could hear more of the mechanicals of the engine, I think there must be too much sound dampening on the engine cover.

Thanks and congratulations on your new ride.

I wasn't sure about the black wheels. I actually wasn't sure about buying pre-owned too, so I hit the configurator and had the car spec'd with turbo wheels. I really love the prior turbo wheels that came on the 981 and was looking for a set. But after seeing how much dust these brakes produce, I'm reconsidering :p

I think the transmission has a lot to do with the sound. In a manual, it is more of an annoyance than anything else. The sound outside of the car is the same, but inside the cabin, I can easily tell the difference. I now hear what the engine is doing more clearly.

I'm not going to do much more that put a BMC air filter on and the cat back exhaust. I doubt I'll go the ECU route unless I see/hear one up close that changes my mind. It wouldn't be for the extra HPs necessarily. Just more for the free revs and reduced lag it may provide.

Congratulations. I almost purchased that car a couple of weeks ago. Great color combination. I live in Miami and decided that I prefer the hardtop of the Cayman, since the sun is very strong here and I do my best to avoid it. I am now looking to spend “a little “ more money on a new Cayman GTS discounted 15%.

Thanks. They said they had a deposit on it when I first called. Left my number just in case and they called back two days later to say the deal fell thru. Was that you?

The build had pretty much everything I wanted except for CarPlay. Got them down another 10% from their asking and it came with full front paint protection (hood, lights, mirrors, windshield pillars and bumper) - basically a savings of 2k. Also got them to install new PS4S tires. It had winter tires on it which they shipped with the car in the trailer. I had to pickup the shipping cost.

Here's the build:

Yes, that was me with the deposit on it. You did very well. I wasn’t looking forward to having to spend alot of additional money putting on new tires. That’s great you got them to put them on.

If and when I get back into a 718, I would like a PDK. It will provide a different driving experience from my manual Carrera T.

It's my understanding that "Porsche Connect Plus" actually includes Carplay. At least it does on my 17CS.

Oh? Does the phone need to be connected with a cable vs Bluetooth? The car is equipped with Connect Plus as you can see, but I have yet to subscribe. Is the subscription necessary for the CarPlay to work? Does the screen display the same touch icons as CarPlay equipped heads?

My build shows "IV1 - Porsche Connect Plus" on a 2017 model year Cayman. Not sure the difference between IV1 & IV2 though. I do not subscribe to any of the Porsche Connect services and Carplay works just fine. Must be connected via USB cable. I had my salesman verify functionality using his own iPhone prior to purchase - I bought from a dealer out of state. Works just like any other CarPlay equipped vehicle I have owned in the past - VW GTI, Mazda CX-5.
