Got a new set of track wheels for the Cayman fresh from the tire rack. Went down to 19"s to get good tires, Bridgestone RE-71s, went 10mm wider all around, 245/35 front and 275/35 rear. AutoX this weekend and a time trial at the track next week to put them to use!

Not sure the weight of the Porsche wheels. Still have my street tires on them. Gaining 3 pounds per corner was including the tires so some of it could be there, but 19" oz wheels vs 20" Porsche wheels, not much diff. Tire rack list the wheels as 20.75lbs and 22.5lbs, I think the oem wheels are close to that but maybe a pound or so heavier. So the extra weight is in the tires. Plus when I wieghed the oem wheel/tires they were 6 months old with some track days, could easily be a pound of rubber missing or more.

I have been racing autocross in the pacific northwest all season on 255/35/19 front and 285/35/19 rear RE-71's on OZ Ultraleggera's. There are no fitment issues at all. The tires are about toast now, but wore evenly through the season. On very hot days the RE-71's can get overheated and a bit greasy making it difficult to keep the rear end planted. I am considering trying 305/30/19 on the rear to get more grip as well as a GT3 front sway bar.

Love the car and it is a blast to drive!

That's very good to know, do you have any suspension mods for a more aggressive alignment? The tire rack guys didn't seem confident I could go much wider, but after mounting these new tires I think there's a bit more room. Currently I run in Super Street so I'm stuck camber wise.

What wheel specs (width / ET) were you using for the 255 / 285 F/R setup ?

Also any other suspension mods, maybe aggressive camber ?

Cheers,

Z06Jerry and Chiraoka, sorry for the delay. I purchased OZ Ultraleggera's wheels with the fronts at 8.5x19 with 54mm offset. Stock is 57mm offset. For the rears 10x19 with 40mm offset, stock is 45mm offset. The 718 has limited camber adjustment. I was able to get about 1.1 degrees of negative camber in the front. This was maxed out, so we set the rear at 1.5 degrees of negative camber. There are no other suspension changes and no wheel spacers. Realize that the offset is measured from the center of the wheel, so the higher the offset, the more the wheel is tucked into the wheel well. The lower the offset the wheel sticks out from the wheel well further, thus with the lower offset from stock, I do not want to include any spacers.

Racing autocross there is a slight bit of overstreer with this setup. The car rotates very well, however I would like to get the rear a little more planted when rolling on the power, so I am going to 305/30/19 in the rear. The tires are supposed to arrive this week and there is a PCA race this Saturday, so I will post my impressions next week. I do have to note, the current 255/285 setup, worked very well with new tires and it was only later that the car started loosing traction in the rear coming out of corners due to the tires having quite a few runs on them.

A racing friend with a base 718 Cayman changed his front sway bar to a GT3 bar and really likes the results. I am thinking about this as well, but am a little concerned about increasing the understeer.
