New X-pipe/tips option for 718

For those of us who have no urge, for whatever reason, to install an aftermarket exhaust ... and those of us who are not happy with how the OEM tips are wearing cosmetically (I'm in that camp, and have been since before 1K miles):

This assembly from Soul, a relatively new player in the exhaust game. Comes with a variety of tip options that range from straight/slash cuts to matte/gloss finishes.

This is in addition to this similar offering from Fabspeed, which is (unfortunately) not available in black metal. (Cue extreme Scandinavian band jokes, hehe.)

I'm about 80 percent sure i'll be ordering the Soul unit in the next month. Will keep the forum posted.

The polished chrome tip extends further out than your brushed finish. Before I order them Soul Performance told me they would and directed me to a picture of them installed on one of their Cayman on their website. When I saw the picture I was fine with the look and still am after they were installed on my Cayman.

Seems like the polished Soul tips stick out about the same as my Fabspeed tips.

Not surprised as Soul Performance is a spinoff of Fabspeed. BTW your tips look great.

Very excited this morning. On my way to get my Soul polished chrome dual tip installed. Pictures later.
On the edge of picking these up. Any insight yet on how they'll weather on the exterior surfaces? (Soot buildup, oxide layer, etc.) Just wondering if they'll stay shiny on the outside.
I ended up spraying my single tip gloss black high temp paint. Turned out very nice. Not twin, but I really wanted the black, so it's good for now!

They are holding up very well maintaining their chrome finish. Very little, if any, soot build up much less than any of my stock Porsche exhaust tip. Highly recommend!
Optical, can you post a snap? I too was thinking of doing the same thing.
That looks nice.
I actually like the standard bright finish but it does get dirty with exhaust, and I don't like it then.
Could you please show us how the black looks with some miles on it?
Hey all! I invite anyone who is interested to reach out to discuss all options and get forum pricing on our Bolt-In X-Pipe with tips!

I'm looking at both Soul (single wall, slash cut, black) and Fabspeed (carbon fiber) tips, as this is my first mod to the car. Both companies claim a slight increase in power. Has anyone noticed this with either company? If so, are we talking .10/sec in 0-60, or is it more of a perceived power due to the loudness or tone? I welcome a more aggressive tone and gurgle too.

I'll put it to you this way - it's small enough that you will not notice a difference. It would be 1-3 whp at most. I've seen bolt-on X-pipes make a slight dent on the dyno, but it's such a small amount that it's hard to make a claim of exactly how much power as it could be a number of factors and variables during the dyno session. You may also notice a smoother and ever so slightly more aggressive exhaust note as a result. The last thing we want to do is lie or make claims we can't back up with concrete evidence - the changes are very small but they are there. We primarily market these as a cosmetic mod.

I'd be happy to take care of you with a forum discount to get your feedback about the changes they make.

I'm looking for louder and throatier. Is there any consensus on the Soul or Fabspeed might be the better choice for this? I'm leaning toward Soul because of their participation in the forum.
I just installed Soul chrome double wall on a base Cayman. In my opinion it made NO difference in the sound but it looks awesome! My goal was to improve cosmetic appearance - that was met 100%. Installed myself - loosened left side of exhaust only and "pulled" it over - gave me enough clearance to separate and slide in new X-pipe. Overall a pretty simple job (even on jackstands).

I got my satin slash cut x-pipe and tips installed today. I went with an installer listed on Soul's site (which was a great experience, but probably a new thread). I immediately noticed a change in the exhaust note when revving in Sport mode, around 3000-3500 rpm. It was more noticeable when driving with a little more spirit, especially in Sport+ mode. I'd describe it as a little smoother, refined bit a little more aggressive - like Mike said. I wasn't expecting any change, as another member had noted, so it was a pleasant surprise. I think they look so much better than the 'blowhole".

I want to give a big thanks to John and Mike at Soul. They took the time and effort to make sure I got what I wanted and went beyond what I'd consider good customer service. I'm going for Cobb tuning next month and then either a Soul downpipe with a high flow cat, or their touring exhaust.

I do like the look of these. Is it just the perspective, or are they touching the bumper / valance?
Was considering Soul but saw this video and I’ve hit the brakes. Not sure if this is really an issue

Fabspeed X-Pipe

But if I’m going to make a change I don’t want there to be a regression in flow. Thoughts?

Before you come to any conclusions, know this:
  • Soul was founded by ex-Fabspeed employees. (I'll let you imagine why.)
  • The video you're referencing is from Fabspeed, which is trying to sell you stuff. Take anything said on it with a grain of salt.
  • Backpressure is far more of an issue before and within muffler assemblies than after muffler assemblies. Unless the I.D. of an exhaust tip assembly is drastically smaller than the I.D. of what enters the muffler, any perceived or measured reduction in flow will be minimal. (Exhibit A: the VW Beetle, which had very narrow post-muffler tips and significantly larger exhaust piping. Aftermarket tips were popular because they almost always had no effect on exhaust flow.)
  • The 718's stock exhaust is an unequal-length design. Flow anomalies are already managed correctly well before the X-pipe assembly -- which, like the OEM tip assembly, is of equal lengths. That should tell you something.
  • If you're really concerned, the fact that an X-pipe design adds a light amount of power -- basically imperceptible, really -- should squash any concerns.
  • Full aftermarket exhausts almost always don't employ an X-pipe. The reason why is because the pre-muffler piping is frequently larger and flows significantly better. An X-pipe could be a hindrance unless it was designed specifically for the aftermarket exhaust.

Ask and ye shall receive. Thanks for those thoughts. I was leaning towards Soul in the first place. If I were to do my exhaust I would probably go with them over FS. But right now just considering a tip upgrade.
