Just got our 718 PDK base agate (MSB color if anyone ever heard about that shade of brown or is from former supra world). This car is TIGHT. Previously owned a 96 GTS viper, the 718 is like a mini version of that. Keeping the rpms under 2k for now.

DIY Oil change planned in next few weeks at 1k miles. No mods planned, haven't hit the gas yet. Can imagine the 718 will be a good platform for basic mods (downpipe + boost increase).

Anyone know:

- what is the max efficiency for stock turbo (max psi)?
- can the stock fuel system (injectors, pump, FPR) handle stock turbo w/ increased boost over stock. Estimates of max supported HP for the fuel system?
- does the 718forum have a faq/wiki?

Welcome, Npopper!

You need to head over to the Engine and Technical Discussion subforum here. There are several threads that discuss the efficiency and operation of the turbos in 718s there; they'll likely answer a lot of the questions you have.

There is no faq/wiki here. The 718 simply hasn't been around long enough, and it's not a high-production car. (Granted, your old Viper wasn't high production, either, but from what I understand it had (and has) a rabid following, particularly among deep-level gearheads. There are a few of those here, but not all that many.)

Do some reading here; we're happy to chime in on any questions!

For best info wrt after-market tuning of the new turbos, this is the place: https://www.porscheboost.com/content.php

Most of their content is geared to the 3.0 9A2B6 991.2 Carreras, but conceptually your 2.0 9A2B4 is two-thirds of that engine so everything applies apart from the air-to-air intercooler and twin turbos of the B6. And there are a few threads specific to the B4.

Short answer is yes the stock 2.0 shows big gains in peak hp from flash-only tune (see Cobb post). Cooling may be the initial constraint, before the fuel system. On the 911, the PorscheBoost 'house' tuning project is upgrading the turbos to larger units from Tial, and upgrading the IC -- not touching the fuel system yet. The 9A2 engines have new ultra-high-pressure central fuel injection derived from the 919 race engine, so I suspect fuel delivery not the issue.

My Cayman S feels nothing like a Viper to me. I’ve been a Certifeid Viper tech since 94. I’ve driven a lot of them from stock to modified. The Cayman feels increadibly well balanced. The Viper wanted to swap ends on hard acceleration, especially the hopped up ones. Definitely 2 completely different animals.

Maybe it's nostalgia for me....over a decade ago, approaching 2 decades. Still breaking in the cayman engine, RPMs under 2k, havent stepped on it - can't relate to your opinion on acceleration. Getting into the car, quick rumble on start, tucked into a seat with responsive handling - this is what reminds me of a viper in mini/smaller form (less volume consumed in the garage/less bulk - to that point).

Congrats on the Certification.

That sounds waaay too cautious for me, and maybe for the car.:| Try 4000 rpm but don't sweat a brief burst up to 5 or 6. The run-in is (according to Porsche engineers) primarily about the excess heat generated in longer high-rev periods.

With the PDK in 7th that meant nothing over 100 mph for me.:(

Long periods of constant speed are also contra-indicated.
