I'm in a whole new world. I used to build / own SEMA trucks, and in the beginning of January of this year I decided that I was over it. I own these trucks for maybe two years, and put maybe 2-3 thousand miles on them and sell them and start the process over again (the latest two that went to SEMA last year below). They are big and fancy, but not practical at ALL. So I decided that I wanted a sports car. Did some research. I looked at the Audi RS5, BMW M4, Dodge Hellcat, Mercedes C63 S, and of course the Porsche 718 Cayman. After driving all of them I went with a brand new 2019 718 Cayman GTS.

I look forward to interacting with everyone, and of course asking a bunch of newbie questions. ?

You raise the Cayman, we will hunt you down!

Just kidding...

Welcome to our forum!
Houston eh?! One of my SEMA buddies lives down there, and I do work for The Glade Arts Foundation there in the Woodlands. I work for Microsoft, and just spent the last 5 months working in Dallas doing a huge data migration project for the North Texas Tollway Authority.

No lifting of the GTS I promise. :)

Welcome!
A lot of us came to own these cars after all sorts of other interests. So yours doesn't surprise me.
I started racing sports cars in college, but got distracted by tailwheel airplanes, off-road motorcycle enduro, SCCA Pro-Rally and several other things before returning full-circle to sports car racing and Porsches.
If you haven't already done so, and you have the time, contact your local race track for upcoming track days (post-COVID-19 of course).
And you may want to consider getting some instruction depending on your current background.
Late braking into a high-speed turn while dropping gears and then switching back to full-throttle on exit is like a highly addictive drug. And your Porsche will gladly administer as much of it as you want. ;)

My second test drive of the car the dealer drove, and we took a circle on ramp around 110 then he accelerated to 137 in a matter of moments.... Literally, this is what sold me on the car. I was smiling ear to ear for the rest of the day. That's how I knew this car was was for me.

You made the right choice! I second all the recommendations to get this thing out to a track day once you can. It will blow your mind, especially coming from a truck.

You joke but I always though a 'Safari' Cayman build could be fun once this car gets older. Replace the underbody panel with an aluminum one, some rally suspension and tires and you'd have a lot of fun on dirt roads. There was a GT4 rally car already.

Let's start a rumor over in Rennlist. I heard from my SA that Porsche will be offering a non-sport-suspension package (NSS in the configurator) that raises the car 20cm over the base model. A non-NSS option will also be available to raise it another 10cm, but it will require 21" wheels.

Not that I came from SEMA trucks, but nonetheless, have owned trucks of various makes and models my entire life. Own two now. The 718 will open your eyes to an entirely different world of motoring. Enjoy!

I have a guy down in Houston that does my renderings for my trucks who might just do this one for free. HAHA! That would be funny. ?

The 911S I fell in love with as a teenager and was my object of desire for all my adult life, WAS a rally car!
As I said previously, I did SCCA Pro-Rally (in a Datsun 510). The most dangerous activity I have ever been involved with.
But I'd love a keen Porsche rally car like this:

Welcome! You've got at least one other forum member in your area. I won't 'out' him ... but he does also have a white GTS, so look for your twin! ;D

Welcome!

Those trucks look incredible, and having built a few race/track cars over the years, I can only imagine the level of custom fab and engineering that goes into something like that! Impressive.

Former Tahoe kid here - spent a lot of time in the Reno area growing up. Used to be some good open roads around where one could test the top speed capabilities of cars. I hear. I mean, I heard. Er, theoretically. ;)

Enjoy the new GTS!

The trucks are fun, and I'm lucky that my best friend who owns Elite Customs here in Reno is a renown fabricator, and his work is constantly on the cover of magazines. We work well together. I handle the sponsorships, build management, and advertising of the vehicles while he turns his visions into reality. I do help wrench when and where I can. He's already trying to get me to let him do a custom liberty walk wide body kit and take it to SEMA. I explained to him... no custom craziness with this car. There are a few things I want to get painted, and I don't like my wheels. So I'm on the hunt for the Turbo S wheels, or maybe a set of HRE wheels. I thought my forged wheels on my trucks were expensive. ?

It's that time of the year here where mother nature isn't sure if she wants it to be spring or winter. It was 72 here two weeks ago while I was car shopping. The day I bring the car home it was low 50s, and then dumped 8" of snow that night, and then another 3" last night. Now it's in the high 50s with an expected high of 64.

The misses and I are looking forward to heading up to Virginia City, and of course up Mt Rose Highway and into South Lake Tahoe.

Welcome! Very similar experience to you. Salesman hammered a Cayman S on our test ride. I was sold but left wondering about buying a "new" Porsche with 100 or so demo miles. Good luck!

Your car will be more exclusive (I won't say more unique; how about more unusual?) by matching someone else's car than by being unique.

Welcome to the neighborhood @xhyphenx! As @Viffermike alluded, I'm also in Reno with a white GTS:

Mine's a CPO from Plano that @Viffermike helped me check out remotely. Really cool work you did on those trucks! Happy to answer any questions you may have, and hopefully we can meet in person after all this COVID-19 panic subsides.
