2018 Cayman S delivered new to me January 2018, built September 2017. I just crossed 5,000 miles and the oil service message came on. This is less than the 10 k specified interval and less than one year of ownership/use. Oil fill still at max indicator. Did this come on because the car is one year from manufacture or does it somehow reflect conditions of use? The car is a toy and most of the miles could be described as spirited, some commuting but no stop and go.

Sounds like it's the one year service mark. You may have bought it in Jan but it was built and filled in sept which started the ticker. I'm looking at a couple of cars that have been on the lots for a while and if I pull the trigger on one I hope to negotiate a fluid change with the deal.

I was in for my first service a couple of weeks ago, 1 year or 30000km/18000 us miles

Thats the second time i changed i was in to do a change at 15000km.
It felt better then to wait to 30000km

My 2018, delivered in Dec 2017, has 5500 miles. So far, no indicator is on.

I was figuring I'd drive it to the dealer sometime in the late Fall, before it's a year old, and have them do the oil change (this first oil change is no cost....from then on I'll either do it myself or have a friend's race shop do it).

My first service interval took me by surprise, too. My car had less than 4k miles when it reached 1 year in November 2017.

Well the 2 year/20k service interval is about to arrive. My car now has 6k miles and has a build date 9/16. This time, though, I'm prepared. :) I plan to perform almost all of the services required to satisfy the 2 year service, except wheel alignment.

BTW, if you were not aware, you can actually view the service interval count down (miles or days) prior to the notification through the multifunction display.

Service interval in the UK is 2 years, 20,000 miles.
Correct -- as discussed in a few other threads, particularly in the Oils, Fluids, Fuel, Additives and Lubrications subforum here -- but unnecessary to mention since it doesn't have anything to with the OP's question.

Everyone, please be mindful of your location and sales market relative to another members' location and sales market, and tailor responses appropriately. Car specifications are often substantially different between markets, none of which is more important than another on this forum -- in fact, I consider the global flavor of the membership here is a strength.

Thanks, everyone!
