I can’t find c40 oil as recommended
The Mobil 1 site says that their FS 1 oil is a40 approved
I just want to be sure and use the proper approved oil
Thoughts?
C40 is Porsche approval for GPF equipped engines and is not backward compatible with A40!...

Unless you have a GPF equipped car, you don't use C40. I wonder the cars arriving in the US with a dummy GPF... do they get C40 oil or A40?

Read about Mobil 1 C40 approved here:

This is image from the Porsche good to know for 718.
I am going to look in my paper owners manual and see what it says
This is silly for me to be unsure on oil!
Thank you all for your input!
Weird, my owners manual says A40 approval. Have you looked in your actual manual (not the online good to know)?

But I can assure you that A40 M1 is what your local dealership would put in your engine.

The differentiator is the GPF. If you have it, (or a dummy?) then it is C40. For older (up to 2019) with no GPF it's A40.

That's how I read it. And C40 is not backward compatible with A40

And this is a screenprint of the Good to know manual for the 2017-2019 models

Both paper manual and Porsche good to know say “C” oil
Here is page from the book
Why is this so hard?

My paper owners manual on page 104 says C40 alternatively VW 5110
What the heck?
Very odd indeed. As far as I know, there have been no changes to the engine or exhaust components in the US for the 718 during its life so far. Very odd that my cars manual (a 2018) would say A40 spec and yours would say C40 with seemingly no differences in the vehicles other than the model year.

Thanks everyone NOW
Does anyone have a supplier for Mobil 1ESP 3.... I can find ESP which is approved for GM, etc but no supplier for 3....
I too have a 2019 718S and my manual calls for C40. I have not been able to find Mobil 1 ESP X3 0W40 anywhere. The Porsche dealer that did my oil change used A40. I need to top up
the oil level and I am confused about which oil to use if I could even find C40. Mobil 1 site says do not mix A40 and C40. I am just wondering what you did in your search for oil?

I have an Australian delivered 2020 Cayman base. The Owners manual specifies C40 Oil. You simply cannot find it here, so I rang my Porsche Dealer and asked...what oil to use.

Mobil 1 or any equivalent that is A40 Porsche spec is the oil to use, and what the dealership uses according the the person in Service I spoke to. Australian delivered cars do not have the petrol particulate filter. European cars do, and require C40 spec oil is my take on it. It appears that C40 oil is not available in markets where the car does not require it, which sort of makes sense, as no point in stocking it if there is no demand. I've been through three large retailers of oil here locally, and C40 oil is not stocked , in any brand.
