Welcome and congrats.

You can literally flip a coin to decide. You'll get both sides of the argument here. Do you want to be faster (PDK) or feel more involved (manual)? The choice is yours.

Remember:

Red adds 12.3 hp
Green adds 6 hp
White subtracts 4 hp

Good luck!

I agree with Bakos statement - at the end it is your decision, best you test-drive both versions and decide. Base argumentation here in the forum is:
- PDK and Sport Chrono match up perfectly for best accelaration incl. Launch Control and seemles stressless daily driving
- Manual is supposed to give you THE connection between car and driver ...

The T Concept was introduced in the 911 world as a pure driving and weight concept "lighter everything" no navigation, radio, special lightweight glass etc.
In the 718 world the "T" model tries to do the same, but since you can add most features in the configurator, this is makes it look more like a marketing feature.

Bottom Line: Your car - your choice! - i went with the manual transmission - Good Luck!;)

I lost interest in waiting for a Cayman GTS 6MT. Retrieved my deposit and bought a 7 month old Carrera T 7MT with RWS at the end of 2018.

The Cayman is the more beautiful shape; mid engined and the better weapon but I’ve always wanted a 911. (and those rear seats will have their moments)

If the Cayman T anything like the 991.2 T it will be spectacularly good, more than the sum of its parts. No lighter in the real world but a more visceral driving experience. Just enough but not too much is a good description.

As for the 6MT v PDK? You’ll have more fun at all speeds on the public road with the manual.

If you live in a gridlocked urban environment or want the fastest track times, consider the PDK.

PS, I’m staying with the forum because 718 owners appear to be more interested in ownership and driving than they are in bragging rights and $value£.

Well if you ascribe to the "philosophy" of the "t" model (no, not the Porsche's lets make a "pseudo" new model to make more $...philosophy) of less is more then I would say the manual. However if you are tracking then by all means the PDK is better. So, YMMV but it is a personal decision that is affected by what you like-because as noted it is not an easy argument to have, much less achieve consensus. You must drive both (and I mean this-whatever it takes get seat time in both PDK and manual cars). There is no way this decision can be made in a vacuum. If needed I would got to PEC-LA (closest to you) and spend the money to get 45 min in each car (usually 90 minute sessions), if the local dealers either don't have or won't give you extended time in each type of car.

Congratulations I also am a fan of the Carrera T; bueatiful car with the matching color of the side strips backs of mirrors and rear grill. I absolutely love PDK and was not much interested in dealing with the Porsche clutches since to me they are rather stiff which would make driving in traffic a challenge. Post pictures when you take delivery.

At the risk of pointing out the obvious: in the context of door handle straps shaving off ounces, and *all* of the Carrera T's more-serious lightening features paring out 44 lbs., the manual gearbox saves 60lbs. and brings the Cayman under 3000 lbs. That's a couple hundred pounds less than the Carrera T, and the lightest Porsche sportscar.

Not that I would take the manual for its weight savings -- for me it's an essential part of my sportscar holy trinity: mid-engine, manual, open-air. But since the T format places such a premium on 'adding lightness', and the question of this thread is manual with T....well there it is.

Two ways to shave weight off your 718:

1) Go on a diet
2) Get a divorce

Admittedly the divorce is the much more expensive way to go, it might just be worth the weight savings. :)

I weigh about 86kg - thats +10 over the "average weight" person used when quoting the laden weight.
I have a manual transmission which is a saving of around -30kg vs the more popular PDK
The acceleration scares my wife to the point she wont usually accompany me. More kilos saved.
No divorce so I can actually afford to run the car :D
