Looking for the forums thoughts on two cars I’m considering, both have pros and cons. I think I know which way I’m leaning, but why not get others opinions.

As a whole, the cars are similarly spec’d in terms of the major items. Both GTS, same color, both have leather, premium plus package, bose, nav, LCA, seat ventilation, multi-function wheel, etc. MSRP on the cars is about 1k different with car B being higher (part of the pricing difference is the MY increase)

Car A: 2018 Boxster
Pros: fairly local to me (I’ve driven it), has LED headlights (although this isn’t a major deal for me), lower MSRP

Cons: car has been sitting for 6 months. LED headlights (due to the increased cost for something I likely would not select in a custom order), standard interior trim (reflections from sun). Dealers current offer is 1k higher than car B.

my biggest concerns: front bumper is scratched (will not polish out) and the lower fascia is also scraped. Dealer said once they have a deal for the car they will fix it but have not said exactly how. I suspect the bumper would be repainted or otherwise replaced which leaves me concerned about the matching of the color, especially if done locally vs a new bumper painted from the factory.

Car B: 2019 Boxster
Pros: newer (just arrived a couple weeks and is inside vs out in the sun), leather trim so it avoids reflection off the console trim, current dealer offer is 1k less than car A

Cons: no LED lights, odds and ends options that I wouldn’t spec in an order which has driven up the MSRP. I would have to travel to inspect the car and logistics of how I get it home (drive it or ship it). Has a few smaller options that I don’t care about that drive the price up. Travel and shipping would more than consume the price difference, driving it would only eat up part of the price difference.

A custom order would be the way to go, but might end up costing the same in the end for a car with few options car due to smaller discounts.

You don't mention if they're CGTS or BGTS. Would only matter as you're so concerned about reflections from the trim. I can tell you that I have a boxster w/ full leather interior, but standard (silver) trim. I drive w/ the top down all the time and get zero annoying reflection from it. Personally, I like contrast between the leather interior and the trim, but to each. LEDs... whatever. BiXenons are great. I'm sure the LEDs are too or maybe better, but you'll never think, "man I wish I had LED headlights" once you're driving. I take that out of the picture as well. Repairing a scratch: the car's not old enough to have color mismatch concerns, especially as it's not PTS. I take that factor out too. Lastly, in Car B you cite smaller options driving the price up, but it's still cheaper than A, so......

Based on that, I take B (Despite having the leather trim... I really don't care for it, but that's me). Drive it home, save a buck. Get a newer car. Get a couple options you don't care about, but get "for free" when all's said and done. (That said, I'd direct you to my personal motto / signature line below ;) )

Car B sounds better to me. There is nothing wrong with the standard Xenons and personally I don't really like the four dot DRLs on the LEDs. Makes it look like a Macan. So unless you are doing a lot of night driving no advantage with the LEDs and Car A sounds like it has not really been looked after. There is something to be said for ordering new if the price is not much more.

Lights--as Johan says, the bog standard lights aren't much--PDLS at a minimum, LED (PDLS+) gets great reviews.

Like Wine.O I find the standard silver trim a nice contrast with no reflection issues (Boxster), so I'd never order the leather.

With the scratches I'd be hassling for a better price--and unless the scratches are really noticeable to others I'd stick with the original paint. A good touch-up artist can do wonders if they bother you later. If you plan on keeping it a while small scratches are likely anyway.

The 2019 models come with sport exhaust standard--it's worth nothing to me as I like the stock exhaust in sport mode. (Just disconnect the Soundaktor.:))

I'd hassle for A as is, quoting the deal on B to drive down the price.>:D

I'd order the car I wanted. That's where you're headed one day anyway! (I've been there.)

Thank you for the responses.

The cars are both new Boxster GTS models. The scratches on car A are on a front corner, far more noticeable than I am willing to accept on a new 100k+ MSRP car. The lower scrape isn't as big of a deal, heck with the low clearance of the car I'm likely to do the same thing before too long anyway!

Headlights seems like a mixed bag for folks. One has PDLS and the other PDLS+ with the LEDs. This is a third car for fun so mostly will see day time driving, but we do plan to take it for weekend trips and some nights out, but it won't see commuting duty or anything like that.

I'm pleased to read folks haven't had reflection or glare issues with the standard trim as I've had other mentions of it and also noted it in one test drive although it wasn't as much of an issue as in my wife's QX80 which isn't even a convertible. Although the metal there is polished and thus mirror like.

Maybe I'll ask about allocations and possible discount on an order, more in the mood to get a car sooner rather than later if it nicely meets my needs. Been waiting on the final wife approval on a new sports car for a couple years and after originally planning to get a Z06 I decided to do some diligence and walked into a Porsche dealership. Oops! The 718 line while not as raw as a corvette and for the money I give up pure performance, it has proven to the be the car I want to get back in after test drives. It wants to be driven and driven hard, inspires you to press it and take those corners. could spell trouble for the driving record. I'll miss the v-8 sound, but oh well!

You should be able to find ~7% discount on a new order. 2018 models should fetch a good deal more and if there are scratches then they should at a minimum repaint AND give an additional discount. If you're considering the 2018 I would get exact details on what they will do.

Assuming they will make the 2018 worth it (repaint plus >7% discount) then I would say go with whichever car meets your spec requirements better. Don't worry about a couple thousand dollars if you think the options are going to be important to you.

Neither . . .

There is too much you don’t like about both, that’s what you’ll look at every day wishing you hadn’t got it rather than why you did.

Too much money for that.

Configure exactly what you want, pay your money make your choice ;-)

If I may inject a minority view into the discussion, just for balance.

The essential appeal of these cars lies not in some perfect combination of options, but in a driving experience which is shared by all models at all levels of trim.

Invariably, some options appearing vital now will seem less so in coming years, while others omitted may be missed. Some bits can be swapped/upgraded with after-market parts.

As someone who obsessed over cabin aesthetics perfection-on-a-budget with configuration builds (twice) only to take an available dealer-inventory car to avoid the -- for me -- very unpleasant distraction of a four-month wait, I found a certain serendipity came with flexibility. Like discovering that the driving pleasures of a stripped S more than outweighed the missing options of a like-priced base. And living 4 months of new-owner bliss (in prime top-down driving season) while watching my forum-mates agonize over long delivery waits made my 'car in hand' feel that much more special. Not that I took pleasure from their discomfort, not at all, only that it made me extra appreciative of the new Boxster, made every drive feel a bit of a guilty pleasure. When I could indeed 'drive it like I stole it'....

Not for everyone here, understood, but I'm surprised frankly not to see more similar stories. The 'car in hand' is the one option I feel gets overlooked or underweighted in these kind of discussions.

UPDATE: Car Purchased

A quick update for everyone. I made a deal on car A. I was able to get the local dealer down a fair bit more on car A and after looking at the scratches more they were not as significant as I had recalled them being when I had previously noticed them. They buffed right out. So I got the price I wanted and they also threw in a couple of other things such as an extra oil change, swapping out the side markers and a couple other little things to sweeten the deal out.

So I've got my car and I'm a happy camper as is my wife who was not thrilled with the remote car and drive or transport it back home situation. Until I saw the Agate Gray paint with the Bordeaux interior I had thought Sapphire Blue paint was what I wanted, but the Gray/Bordeaux combo is just awesome.

Amazing how doing research led me to a Boxster GTS instead of the Z06 I thought I wanted and dreamed about. As many will say here, there just something about the way a Porsche drives! Spent a little more money for a car with less performance, but is still more fun to drive.

The proverbial picture or it didn't happen!

oh yeah, it works really nice. I had considered going with a red top as well, but decided I liked the more standard black as I think it looks a little more aggressive when up. The red top is awesome looking when down though.
