Our First Porsche!

Greetings folks!

I'm a long time car nut, but have typically stayed with British and Japanese cars. My wife and I have 3 boys, and as they've gotten older and started to move out, they've also been taking our more plebian cars for themselves. So with another car being subsumed by a boy here soon, it came time to find a vehicle for her to replace her boring ol' commuter. She's long wanted a convertible, and so we went and looked at... well, pretty much everything in the market. Miata, F-Type, MB E Class, Audi, BMW 2 and 3s... and that doesn't even include the used stuff like Vantages, XKs, older Boxsters, etc. When we finally drove a 718, she... well, she fell in love. It was small, easy to drive, and she loved the design inside and out. I countered with a 911, but after driving it, she genuinely prefers the smaller factor of the 718. And I have to admit, that it's very seductive. So, after considering our choices for the last 3 months or so, we finally pulled the trigger on finding a dealer with allotment and placed the order yesterday. I don't expect that we'll see it till late this year, as we went for a custom color as well. She's always been fond of green, and after going over SO many different PTS shades, we settled on a very classic color of Irish Green. Combined with a two tone (Espresso/Cognac) interior, I expect we're going to take delivery of a car that we keep for years and years.

We're joining this board first because... well... P9 and Rennlist have not had the most positive audience participation for the 718s - based mostly on exhaust note, it seems. We both liked the note that the 718 had, and went for an S with sports exhaust - just to be even more obnoxious. :D

At the end of the day, it was the 718 that seduced us to our first Porsche (First German car, even!) - so they must be doing something right. Looking forward to being a part of the online community here!

Congratulations!! The 718 will not disappoint......Cool color......enjoy!
Welcome!

You must have alot of British blood based on the color combo ;)
Its gonna be a Killer!
Congrats, sounds very nice indeed! We got our 718 in August, chosen off the lot near your neighborhood, and went with the closed Cayman. We've just not been satisfied with an open-top car... it's either too hot, too cold, raining, snowing, or windy! Best of luck, and hope you'll enjoy it to the fullest. Join PCA?

Doug, from over the mountains to the east.
That thing is going to be gorgeous and unique.
Congrats! We picked up our first Porsche in December. In our case, we flew down to the Porsche Experience Center in Atlanta and drove it home to NJ. It was a glorious trip.....better than we could have imagined. You won't be sorry.

Great color choice too. Our 718 Cayman is white, but I really like the idea of Irish green ever since I rode in my friend's Irish Green '67 911S.

We also came from British car ownership (50 years in fact) and still own an MGB roadster, Lotus 7 and vintage-racing MG Midget, among others (we like the Boxter, but didn't feel the need for another soft top).

I also like the sound of the Cayman, but to be honest, our MGB with Stebro exhaust sounds better than any other street car I have ever heard. The MG engine is a primitive lump, but the sound is magnificent.

When it comes to the wait for delivery of your Porsche, it was tough but will be well worth it!
Welcome! Glad that you found your way over to the 718 site for 718 enthusiast. :D. Rennlist is the 911. P9 is building its own coffin.

Congratulations on your order. The color combination sounds awesome. I look forward to seeing photos.

Tell us about you build.

Welcome to the Waiters Club. I order my first Porsche (in classic GT Silver) in Dec and hope to receive it in April (when the snow is melted). As for the wait, I share your pain - but I'm sure it will be well worth it in the end.
Thanks for the warm welcome! Definitely looking forward to the car, it will be a lot of fun. The Green/Tan type option is what I have on my XKR, and I'm quite fond of it. Tough to tell from these pics, but it's a very dark metallic green. My mother was a British immigrant to the US, and so it's always been a theme for cars that I've liked. I'm hoping to convince her into doing at least one PCA event - I've taken the orange one out several times for HPDEs, and have had a ton of fun. That 350Z I picked up 15 years ago tomorrow, and has been a fantastic car. In previous years, the Boxster/Caymans didn't really pose much of a challenge for him on track days, but the 718 will be a very different story I think.

The 718 will be... well, it'll have a lot of stuff on it. PDK, Sport Chrono, PASM, PTV, and the sport exhaust too. I really like the dual nature of exhausts with bypass (once again, influenced by the XKR) so hopefully that's money well spent.

Welcome, Rahtok! You seem genuinly excited (as you should be :)! It's a magnificent car) I'm waiting for mine (cayman base) too so we can count down together!
Congrats! Kudos on the color combo. I love color and just ordered a Miami Blue 718 Boxster. The waiting is excruciating!

So there where some truth to it!
Your gonna love the PTV, even if i only have pushed my a car a little bit it was noticeable how easy it turns in to corners.
I have not floored it out of corners yet.
Its snow on the roads today and even onder these condition it does a good job.
Oooohh . . . . ooooh. . . Is it coming with Carrera Sport wheels? That would go really well with you colors.

<chuckles> No, no Carrera Sport wheels. To be honest, she liked the Boxster ones best, and none of them came in the finish I thought would look best - some sort of Bronze. So we took the base wheels and may hit up HRE or some such afterwards.
Silver (OK the wheels are actually aluminum paint) and dark green always looked good on my regimental tie.:x
