Hi All,

I just purchased a '17 Cayman S, in Lava Orange. This is my 3rd Porsche, with the previous two being a '99 986, and '14 991 S.

I had been looking at 718's for the past month, and after watching every YouTube video and reading every article written about the cars, I decided to get one. I'm in NC, and the car I found was in WA, at a Cadillac dealership. It was the only one on the market with the 4 must have options for me. SC, PTV, SPASM, and PDK. I flew to WA to check it out in person, and ended up buying it. Unfortunately, the weather in the PNW did not cooperate with my plans to drive it back to NC. I will have to wait 3-4 weeks before it makes it home, as the earliest the shipping company could collect it is 3/11-13 and delivery will be 3/25-28.

I don't get the whole thing about the sound of the car, with PSE on or off, I think it sounds great!! Maybe it's because I've owned 4 Subarus in the past, 2 STI's and 2 Legacy GT wagons, and I've always loved the sound of a 4 pot boxer.

I'm looking forward to being a part of this community.

Regards,

X2

Congrats X2! Picked up a CPO 2017 CS in January in Chicago and got to do the drive back to ATL. You will enjoy this car!

I agree the sound is really good on the S especially with PSE. I got to really wring out a base model with no PSE and felt that engine had a bit of a high strung sound, so I can see the complaint there, but not in the S.

Drive it in good health!

Nice one, you will find the ride and handling great on the 19” alloys
Thank you! I am trying to decide on leaving them silver, or powder coating a gloss black.

Sweet ride and an awesome color. Don't see too many orange cars out there in the Porsche department. Enjoy
Thank you! I'm no stranger to bright colors, and I love them. I had a '15 F80 M3 in Yas Marina Blue, and my 991 was Guards Red.

The lava sometimes looks like guards in photos (see attached) and both are great colors. I love GT silver too, but they are hard to find with the right options.

Welcome. That's one heck of a distance to travel to find the perfect car. Nice one it is as well. Congrats.
Thank you! It would have been the furthest I've flown out and driven a car home, if it had worked out. (Euro delivery of my F80 doesn't count) I always say, "If you find the right car, it's worth going the distance to get it." Where I live in NC, you can barely get a used base for the price I paid for this one.

…..I don't get the whole thing about the sound of the car......
Same here. It seems silly to me. We had a Subaru 2.5 RS and I thought it sounded great.

Sorry you didn't get to do the road trip. We picked up our 2018 Cayman at the Atlanta PEC and drove it home to NJ......it was great fun.

Anyway, congrats and welcome!

Wow, the orange and black combination is visually stunning. Bunch of go-fast stuff too.

But help me out here. I sold my only other Porsche 45 years ago and have owned my current one for only 7 months. So I'm still getting used to the alphabet soup of feature identifiers, not to mention the half a million or so 911 variants all named with a 3-digit number beginning with 9. Which is a long way of saying I can't figure out what SC is.:(
Too bad you couldn't drive back to NC. That would have been a nice adventure.

Great looking Cayman and Welcome! I think those wheels in gloss black would look great with the Lava Orange and other black bits. I have the same wheels and am thinking about having them powder coated in Porsche platinum.

Thank you! The shipping has been a nightmare so far. It makes me want to just fly back out there and drive it back now.

I had to switch from an enclosed to an open carrier, as the broker (Montway) wanted an extra $500 on top of the original quote. I found a company that owns all of their trucks, and the drivers are full time employees. Unfortunately, they don't own any enclosed trucks, but with over 20 years in the business, and just 3 BBB complaints, of which two were resolved, I'm hoping for the best.

Thank you! A gloss black powder coat is probably going to be the first mod, I'll have to take a look at Porsche Platinum now that you mentioned it.

Nice to see I'm not the only one rocking Lava Orange on the stock wheels. Pick up a cheap set of the painted caps, they really do seem to add that little something...
I already plan to change the wheel color, but keep the 19's. The painted caps will look good on a darker wheel too. My 991 S had them on the black 20" Carrera wheels.

Nice...welcome!
Thank you!

Nevertheless, that Lava Orange is quite the thing!
That it is :D
