I've been out driving my 2018 Cayman as much as possible. We even took it to Vermont (from NJ) a few weeks ago and drove 2 miles on a dirt road while there.

And of course, I drive it on New Jersey and New York roads, which are neither genteel nor kind.

So the other day, a rock from another car nicked the bonnet. We were out driving on Hawk's Nest, which is a cool road near Sparrow Bush, NY (Google it for pictures). It took the paint right down to the aluminum in two, small spots.

I have no way to prove this, but I doubt any plastic coving would have stopped this. The stone was big and hit with a definite THUNK. Glad it missed the windshield.

I've actually thought about leaving the resulting scar.

My previous car was covered with road rash and I own a race car that is pock-marked with my 40 years of racing it.
And, of course, I have a few scars myself......most with good stories. :)

But since the car is only about 6 months old, I'll have it fixed.

I would try Dr. Colorchip. I am always impressed with the results. If you aren’t happy, you haven’t wasted much money. I have Used Dr. Colorchip on all my cars and the only one that didn’t perfectly match was the pearl white on my Toyota Avalon Hybrid but they warned me it would be due to the triple coat process used for the paint. It still passed a 1 foot view though. Normally once I fill a chip, it’s so close to perfect, I have extreme difficulty finding the chip again without very close inspection. If it is a deep chip, you may have to do multiple passes to fill and level the surface to create a flawless correction. You just don’t wax for a couple weeks. You can detail.

I already have a kit for my lava orange since I will end up getting a chip at some point, but will at least have the paint at the ready.

My friend sorry to see that......I know completely how you must feel but agree with those above there are allot of great reviews for Dr. Color Chip. I purchased the Miami Blue kit but never got to use it but not to worry my wife has decided she wants a 718 CS in , you guessed it, Miami Blue.......

…...If I am unsuccessful we will find a 2017 or 2018 new or lightly used with the specs she wants and get a fair discount.

We will all be hoping for your lack of success! >:D

How timely of a post.

Just returned from a 1700 Mile drive to Nashville and Deals Gap, and on the way back as a 18 wheeler was merging, heard a loud BANG as a rock hit the car. Now the CS has PPF on the whole front clip and mirrors.... so of course it hit the roof. Nasty chip, not as bad as above though. and also glad it didn't hit the windshield.

I just ordered the DR.Colorchip kit and added a bottle of their Oxford white paint to use on the truck.

If it works good I may get a bottle for the GF's MB

Thanks for the heads up on the coupon.

I've used DrColorChips on several of my Porsche's. It worked extremely well on both of my black Porsches as well as my new Cayman in Guards Red. The only color I had trouble with was Sapphire Blue Metallic. Apparently its difficult to touch up metallic paint.

My Boxster was a Porsche exec demo (how exactly do I get one of those jobs). It came with PPF, but there was a hole in the film on the hood from a stone, which is pretty noticeable. The good news is that it appears the PPF saved the paint from damage. Now I need to decide if I am going to replace the PPF on the hood, or just live with it.

+1 for getting the touch up done professionally. My detail shop has done this for me a few times on other cars and the repaired chip was only noticeable on close inspection.

You know if you dont replace the PPF that you will get another rock hitting that exact spot where there is no PPF :)
