My honest thoughts:
- Red wouldn't set itself apart from the red of the bodywork
- Red is also the color that 'S' models have their calipers painted, so to some it might look like you were trying to pass off your base as an 'S'
- Yellow (per @grasmere) would be even worse: To some you'd be trying to pass off your car as having PCCBs
- Why black? They're already nearly that color ... ?

Aren't the base brakes already black?
That was my first thought as well, but I restrained from posting it up /forum/images/718forum/smilies/tango_face_smile_big.png
Thanks for the comments. Yes they are black but some type of anodized finish and they will get ugly / slightly fade over time. I would do a painted gloss black. Years ago Porsche painted it base cars calipers. My old 2002 996 base had painted calipers.

I’m with Viffermike, red will look like an S wannabe and black doesn’t change anything. I think if anything it detracts from the car

Personal choice though
I was thinking same for the S wannabe. But I’m not a fan of the anodized black. Yellow is definitely not an option for my taste. I do think the black paint will look and wear better. We will see how motivated I get to go from black anodized to gloss black. ?

As several people have already mentioned, red or yellow may be perceived as trying to be something else but if that is what you want, do it. I prefer black and in fact, had I purchased an S one of the first mods after the clear side marker lights would have been to paint the calipers black.

An anodized surface treatment will transfer heat better than paint, for what it's worth. Each interface between one material and another inhibits heat transfer, and paint doesn't conduct heat very well either. Probably doesn't matter too very much though unless your brake disks are glowing that cheerful warm orange color!

You have a red car, I think they will look great in red. Who cares what people think. Most people will just think nice Porsche with red calipers. It could be a 911 for all they care.

I had black calipers on my RS4 that you couldn't even see. What a waste! I had them painted in silver to match the Silver duco. I'd also always liked the silver Mercedes AMG calipers and the lighter Audi Ceramic calipers so that was part of my decision process. I thought the red was a little too loud for my liking at the time and would clash.

But you have a red car so your car already stands out so much, red calipers will just tie things in a little better! :)

After all so many cars these days have red calipers, particularly Porsche's.

You will need some good quality Porsche decals so might what to check out:

Repair Caliper Brake Decals - Super Graphics F1

I don't see them listed by they can print anything you want and they also have an ebay shop if you want to purchase through there.

I say just do it!

If by most people you are also including non car people my guess is they will be thinking "nice red sports car" some might not even notice it is a Porsche and most would definitely not notice the color of the calipers.
I personally like the original black/grey color of my base calipers, but if you you prefer them red, just go ahead and get them painted.

I've always been of the opinion that if I'm spending my hard-earned money on something I'll have it they way I want it. I don't care if 3 people in the world would think red brakes look "wannabe". If I want them, I'll get them. Unless someone else is buying my car for me, their opinion is really meaningless. Also, a base Cayman with an "S" badge added says "wannabe" a lot more than red brakes. In my opinion. Of course.

So, get the color you want. It doesn't matter what strangers think.

...I totally agree. It doesn't matter what your reason. If you like it...do it! That's all that matters. I feel the "wannabe" argument a bit ridiculous. Opinions will always vary. Remember...it's your car, so enjoy it!...

Totally agree. Im about to order a gentian blue cayman base with black satin carrera s wheels
Yellow calipers for example would make such a difference on that combo especially if the seat belts are yellow instrument dials and so forth
