Good day All,

I’ve had my share of manuals and this is a first for me. I find that the car rocks backwards a tad after I put on the hand brake and remove my foot from the brake. It’s almost like when you put an auto into park without using the handbrake and you can feel the car roll back on the transmission pin.

Has anyone else noticed this on their manual? Almost feel like the handbrake is either on a pin of sorts or not adjusted properly.

Feedback would be greatly appreciated.

I engage the parking brake and leave the car in 1st gear then turn the ignition off. If I'm on a downhill slope, it's left in reverse.
If I leave the PDK in gear when turning off the engine it complains. I think I remember that it won't let me remove the key. But maybe I mis-under-remember that.

I'm in the habit of engaging the parking brake BEFORE I put my PDK in park, otherwise the car rolls a few inches as described.
This is the only way our BS remains stationary after removing foot from brake...even on flat surfaces, such as our garage floor. Although, I’m not sure whether placing it in park before or after engaging the parking brake matters, but will check next time.

I have "Entry & Drive," so I don't remove a key. In your case - that is I assume without E&D - there probably is some interlock such as locking the key until you put the PDK in park. Regardless, you should be able to engage the parking brake in D, N, or R as long as you are stationary, then slip into P.

Well I have an MT which the OP seems to have as well. So my car doesn't balk at leaving it in gear ;). However my 1500 is auto and it does a little rollback when on an incline, after putting it in park, setting the parking brake and removing my foot from the brake.

I have a 2018 718C 6MT. I had to leave it at the dealership last weekend so they gave me a brand new 2020 718CS PDK for a few days. It did the same rocking thing that the OP commented on. When I got my car back I found that it didn't make the rocking motion. Maybe it is because I keep my foot on the brake until I hear the parking brake is fully engaged, just to be safe. I don't recall if I was doing that on the PDK car because I had already put the car in park before engaging the parking brake.

On a side note, while driving the PDK car I found that you could force the parking brake to go into "hold" mode while the car was stationery by pumping the brake once or twice without lifting your foot completely off the brake. I have found the "hold" feature on my car to be a bit flakey in that it doesn't always engage on slopes so that when I take my foot off the brake the car rolls backwards. I tried the brake pumping on my car, and it doesn't work. So, is this a new(ish) feature or is it a PDK feature?

Pushing the brake a little harder puts the car in hold mode. Same as stopping on a hill puts it into hold mode automatically. It's in the manual.
Correct. @TheLip : This thread on the Hold Function should explain the feature enough -- there's even a Porsche video on it in one of the posts. And it's present on manuals, too.
