yesterday driving in manual mode
park in garage lever wont move over
what a mess

car wont fully shut off cant get into reverse and stuck in 1st gear

three tow trucks declined moving it (would have to drag out of garage and up onto flat bed
no one had dollies

4th guy with wheel dollies reaches under rear of car finds trans shift lever and prods it forward
lever moves and car is drivable again

little info on this on line found one case posted on renline

ill update when dealership gets it sorted out

at least you guys will know what to do if you get stranded with this issue

the manual lever release under the console doesnt do squat with this issue by the way

I cant find anything on cable adjustment on line was tempted to try and fix it myself

but...under warranty taking it in tomorrow

don't need a lift
stick head under right rear fender near far back look to transmission there is a big 5" lever connected to a cable heading toward fromt of car

lever is near exhaust shielding goes right into trans

that lever was pushed toward front of car to release the pdk lever

yea I was mistaken above
there is one case I found on planet 9
so yea rare one
but...leaves you utterly stranded and potentially fixable with no tools to get you home (use a glove if engine is hot)

Thanks for the info. I'm going to look under my right rear fender today just to make sure I can ID that lever. You never know!

I am not savvy enough to post a pic sorry
lever is really easy to see stick head under fender behind rear tire passenger side its right up against the head shielding
and goes right into the trans

no word from dealer yet
they gave me a loaded base Panamera as a loaner though so I don't mind
wow what a car obviously not a mid engined sports car but all around really nice! Butt dyno says faster than my base 718B
power delivery is different though

that's the cable I recognize the yellow clip the lever is toward the rear of the car from that

you can see it best from the side right behind the passenger rear tire looking toward the drivers side right in front of a heat shield attached to the trans the lever is at least 4" long its pretty big

if I had the car id take a pic myself ...when I get it back

yea too close to see the whole lever but that is definitely the end of it

I remember the end piece thinking I could pop it off and turn it shortening the throw

no dice I could feel no threads to allow adjustment

back up two feet and you will be able to see the whole thing

I don’t mean to bump an old post. But I thought it was important to document that it happened to another 718 , my 10 months old 2018 718 Cayman. Stuck in manual mode, lever won’t go to the right. Manual override doesn’t work don’t waste your time removing the center console button panel it’s meant for if the PDK fails to shift D or R to N.

@dave22 solution works crawl down from the rear bumper right side turn your head to the left and look by the exhaust muffler you will see the piece in the photos above just nudge the lever below the white piece to the front. Get back in the car and the shifter will move. Has not happened again saved me a dealer trip.

After reading this thread, I had to go look under my GTS to sate my curiosity in case it were ever to happen. I was able to get a decent picture of the lever in question. Thanks to the OP for posting the info.......that had to be a pretty smart tow truck driver.
