Baby is at the doctor because of an A/C issue so they gave me as a loaner a new Macan with only 5k miles on the odometer. It is a base model but pretty well loaded, which is extremely surprising for a dealership loaner, particularly in California. Anyway, the Auto Start/Stop remembers the setting from when the car was shut off, something my 2018 718C wont do.

Auto Start/Stop is used by the manufacturer to increase MPG rating for a vehicle. I would think that for any vehicle in the Porsche lineup, a SUV, not a two passenger sports car, would have the Auto Start/Stop not be persistent. Is this a signal that new Caymans and Boxsters will have persistent Auto Start/Stop settings?

Also, the Macan has PASM, which has three settings: Comfort, Sport and Sport Plus. I cannot tell a difference between the settings. I don't have PASM on my 718C but have been thinking about it for my next 718. Does anybody have it on their 718, and does it make a difference in street driving, or do you only notice it, if at all, when tracking your car?

Thanks.

Yes, absolutely it makes a big difference.
On the street I normally use "S" and the car is fantastic for cruising.
The other day I inadvertently switched to "S+", I wondered why the dampening felt harsher than ususly, then I noticed I was in S+

I also track the car and there is definielty a big difference.

with pasm on you can feel street bumps more but the car is much flatter turning and accelerating/braking. I hate the former but like the latter so i'm torn as to whether to daily drive with it on or off.

The Macan must have SPASM, not PASM. I have PASM and usually drive in Sport mode when I get out of my neighborhood. My "go to" is PASM in Sport and PSM in Sport - it's definitely more responsive (and rigid) than in Normal mode for both of those. I haven't tracked my car yet, but it's more fun on the highway or twists. I had read before I bought my car that PASM was too much for the street - poppycock. There's a great variance in Porsche drivers.

My Macan GTS has Air Suspension (AS) with PASM, so may or may not be the right comparison, but there is a notable difference between normal/sport/sport+ that becomes obvious with time. Normal is about like a normal vehicle (CR-V, etc); whereas Sport+ feels like a soft approximation of a Cayman. So I always only drive the Macan in sport+ unless on a purely straight road.

The Cayman has only two settings, not three: normal and sport. The Cayman in normal mode is so good I never feel the need to use sport. However, my primary reason for getting PASM on the Cayman was to get this behavior/comfort in the normal mode.

So I got AS/PASM on the Macan to make it more sporty (to have access to sport+). I got the PASM on the Cayman to get it to be more relaxed (to have access to ‘normal’, which is more forgiving than the default dampers on the non-PASM cars). In both cases the vehicle is lower, so that’s a bonus.

Side Note: I am glad that I did NOT get SPASM on the Cayman. Sport mode is definitely firm enough for me for any application.

I have a 2019 Cayman with SC and PASM and the car came standard with PSE. Mine is not a DD so we enjoy twisty country roads most of the time. Once I get out of my subterranean condo garage, I switch to Sport in order to disable the Auto Stop/Start. I use Sport+ on the track and my Individual setting is Sport with SPASM for those particularly twisty roads that sometimes connect two twisty roads. I love the Sport gurgles too.

But what about the fact that the auto start/stop retains the setting from the last time you drove? Will 2019 MY Caymans do that?

I can tell you with 100% certainty that the 2019 Caymans do NOT retain the auto start / stop feature. Small side note - I read one time in an article that the European manufacturers did NOT start the auto start / stop feature for gas mileage. Instead, they did it to reduce carbon emissions. Either way - I don't like it. We have a Macan and a Cayman - the Macan retains the setting and the Cayman requires a button push. Just part of the routine in the Cayman...........

I hate the [much flatter turning] but like the [much flatter accelerating/braking]...
(Assuming I paraphrased you correctly) I'm curious about not liking flatter turning. My car has none of that fancy stuff (I'd use the acronym but I'd probably get it wrong), so I wouldn't know the difference. However it certainly seems to corner extremely well and flatter than any pancake I've ever driven before.

You assume wrongly, lol
"with pasm on you can feel street bumps more but the car is much flatter turning and accelerating/braking"

i hate feeling the bumps more but like the car being flatter in cornering/accelerating/braking. I hope this clarifies things.

I have a 217 Boxster and purchased a module that I installed and with it the Stop/Start and Sport mode stay in the same condition when you restart the car as they were when you shut down the car. I have 21,000 miles on it and after I installed the module it has never shut off at a stop. The module is by T-Design.

I have a 718 Boxster with 21,000 miles on it. I installed the T-Design module on it and it keeps the stop/start switches and sport switch in the same position as when you turn off the car. After installing it at 2,000 miles the car has never shut down on a stop.
