I've noticed a couple of times lately that in certain conditions that may place tortion on the chassis I get a "pop" or similar type sound. For example, when I turn off of the street into the parking lot for work. I'm turning right and going up a slight incline (not enough to scrape), but it seems like when the right rear wheel finally makes the turn I get a "pop" that sounds like it's coming from the passenger side rear. Is that a normal result of chassis stress or is something else going on? This is happening on both slow things (I take this turn very slow) and during spirited driving.

I don't think it's chassis flex on your Cayman S. I turn my less-rigid Boxster S into a very steep driveway and never hear any audible flexing sound. I'm wondering if it's something in the suspension arms/struts which should be checked out.

@JakiChan , I get this noise, too -- in precisely the same spot as you describe yours. It makes me cringe at times, but I don't worry about it -- I suspect it's the sound of the rear suspension (and, thus, the drivetrain) extending out with the removal of load.

That said, do let us know what the dealer says!

Reason I asked about PTV, is the LSD on my car slips exaggeratedly (while simultaneously making noises) when turning sharply at slow speed on areas with little grip (for eg. smooth concrete) as it tries to resolve the different wheel speeds and lack of traction. It's obviously not relevant if you don't have an LSD though.

Nope, no PTV.

@Viffermike I'll ask them, but it does kind of take away from the feeling of the car being "solid", if you know what I mean.
Well, between that and the 'clunk' between 1st and 2nd gear on downshifts in the PDK, I'm chalking it up to the sometimes ungainly cacophony inherent in German mechanical engineering ... also: No PTV on my car, either.

Resurrecting an old thread...
Exactly the same symptoms here (201è Base 2.0 718 w/PDK, 35,000 miles). The car is always super tight and precise, even during spirited driving or on track, but the same 'pop', 'clonk', or whatever you call it, when turning at slow speed and going over a bump or an incline. I asked the dealer to check the rear shocks during the last maintenance and there was nothing noticeable.

Anyone having additional feedback ? Thanks!
