Hello guys,

I know these cars aren't meant for drag racing, but every now and then I would like to race my friend's cars at the strip. Its cheap and affordable unlike track days.

I was wondering if anyone here has experience at the drag strip with their 718 boxster/cayman's. If so, what times are you guys getting for 0-100, quarter mile, etc? Have you guys raced the previous 991.1 c2s or c4s? Its been raining for the past month here in Vancouver and I just got the car in earlier this month, so I haven't had the chance to go to the strip yet!

I posted this in Rennlist, but the people there didn't seem to be into drag racing :/ Anyone here drag race their 718 cayman s?

I think most owners feel the 718 is a waste of talent on the drag strip. It’s more of an autox or track car. With that said, if you have launch control, drag racing would be a fairly simple affair. I think a 718 Cayman S turns low 12s (according to reviews), but with shorter drag radials, you can probably dip into 11s.

[email protected] (PDK) -- "with some wheelspin -- would have been faster without" per Car&Driver https://s3.amazonaws.com/amv-prod-c...w-car-and-driverporsche718boxsterspdk2017.pdf

Forum member @Black718 did a certified 11.722 at Bradenton with a fully stock S on 93 octane, you can find his posts here https://www.718forum.com/forum/engine-technical-discussion/7570-718-2-5-400hp-factory.html

eta: @bowenxue hope you don't mind if I borrow this thread to provide other best times for 718 S, Cayman or Boxster PDK. All data from fastestlaps.com, which provides links to the original published source (cursor over the time and click to see source info). Notice how mph and kph times (from different tests and cars) tend to correlate over similar distances.

0-60mph: 3.6 (listed as 3.5 but C&D later corrected to 3.6)
0-100kph: 3.8
0-160kph: 8.4
0-100mph: 8.5
0-200kph: 13.5
0-1000m: 21.9

@ZuffenHouseRules

That's fast! Of course I should've expanded the cars to all 718's. The issue with FastestLaps is that some of the times posted are either conflicting with other times or incomplete. (ex, a car is faster to 100 kph than to 60 mph) Therefore, I would not completely trust the times on FastestLaps.
@cipher
Of course I'm planning to go autox and track very often, but the reason I care about drag racing is that a lot of my friends don't have sports cars (they have AMG SUV's, etc), but they still want to race every now and then. If I'm gonna spend 100k + on a car, it'd better be fast both on the track and in the drag!

They mix times from different tests in their summary page, and sometimes use 'manufacturers data' or less-than-best time. I don't know why that is, programming of their app I guess. And some of the times have a non-working link to source, or just cite 'submitted by member' (who indicated the published source at the time, ostensibly).

So despite seeming anomalies at first glance, with some digging and checking sources you can get a pretty good idea of the reliable best times, and these are what I've shown above. And yes, they are all ridiculously fast!

Well, last night I just raced a BMW m5 v10 generation tuned for 600 hp and beat it! Also raced a Corvette Stingray and BMW m2, all auto, and beat all of them by more than a car length! This car truly is fast even in its stock form. Didn't get any 1/4 mile times since this was in an industrial parking lot (off public roads), but next time I'll film a video.
