What current and upcoming vehicles will compete with the all-new Porsche 718?
The below is just a short list of it's competitors, add any more you may know of:

Porsche 718 Competition:
  • Alfa Romeo RWD small roadster
  • Audi TT
  • BMW Z4
  • Lotus Elise
  • Alfa Romeo 4C Spider
  • Mazda MX-5

Nissan 370Z should be in the same price range.
Corvette, Camaro Z/28, Mustang GT500, M4, Lotus Elise...
Just wanted to add to what I was saying before.

It appears that the next 370Z will have hybrid tech and a Mercedes engine. That certainly makes it sound more appealing, but I also think that means that it will be more expensive. I bet that the current model will be sold at a nice discount once the new one comes out though. So there is a lot of cool things going on with the 370Z.

That and I heard Infiniti might have some big plans for their G37 coupe successor, might be something to throw in here.

What did you hear about the G37 coupe (which I believe is called the Q60 at this point)? Is it also going to be a hybrid, or are the changes something different?

Q60 and 370Z have always been the same car underneath! I hadn't heard about the hybridization of the Zed however, would you happen to have a source?

Just rumors and speculation, one of which being it will have some 400-500 HP engine at some point, likely in the IPL model. After seeing the Q50 Eau Rouge, I think they could also be going that direction with the new Q60.

Very interesting. I think that the Eau Rouge probably does point in this direction too.

My source for 370z hybrid news was worldcarfans.com

They talked to Motoring which got it from "a source close to Nissan." Whatever that means.

Nissan 370Z successor will pack hybrid tech and Mercedes engines - report
It sure does, it makes sense that they use this tech and even the same powerplant in some vehicles. Now I just hope they try to make the next infiniti coupe more of a luxurious Z car that can better sit along the luxurious coupes from the german brands.

I don't think that Infiniti has a plan to build a coupe right now though. They have quite a few vehicles in their plans right now, and a coupe isn't one of them. I'm just saying that I don't know when Infiniti is actually going to be moving forward with this.
Anything up to $50K is reasonably in play here, also have to consider the used market, there are plenty of great late model 911's available second hand...
That is true, I can see this going that high in price, maybe even without all that needs to be factored in for an out the door price.
One of the great things about Porsche is that their designs have never really gone out of style. So buying a used Porsche is a really good option. Cheaper, but no less cool thatn the brand new models.
I've heard one of the prime motivators for Porsche to move sub Boxster is to take on the 4C. Why I'm not sure, I dont see it posing a massive volume threat, but it does clean the caymens clock;)
Good move for Porsche, the 4C is an epic car and one that should do well in it's segment, something i want to see go head to head with the 718

I agree with this. Porsche is smart to not let Alfa get a foot hold. If Alfa is trying to come back they will have to do it in the face of competition from Porsche. No such thing as a free lunch.

Here are some spy shots of MX-5 test mules for your consideration. The body work of the current generation has been altered to wrap around the new chassis heere. You can see how the front fenders have been stretched to accommodate a longer wheelbase. The hood and headlights don't look like they fit quite right either.
