I love my 718 more and more every time I drive it.

I love this car more than any of my Boxsters. I had a 986, 987 and 981.

I think this level of enthusiasm spreads and then more people start to look at the 718 and then things go from there. Pretty much every review moans about the engine but raves about the car in general. The 718 models are head and shoulders above everything else in their class. It is no wonder sales are rising.

It is a simplistic view but it s my simplistic view and one I believe in.

The GTS is helping sales. But maybe not as much as one would think. Judging by the inventory at my local dealers maybe 20% of 718 sold were GTS. The rest are S and the top seller is the base no doubt.
I've heard Porsche will cut new US allocations for MY '19 718. That makes me think that if sales drop in a couple of months it doesn't necessarily mean that there is less demand. It's good for resale though.
If someone is planing to join the club with a custom build in the near future I'd start looking for a MY '19 allocation asap.

How do you "look for an allocation"? I have placed an order (MY2019) with my local dealer but he doesn't have an allocation yet. Who gets them (allocations) first? I don't think Porsche has started MY '19's yet anyway so what determines who's going to get first allocations?

You did the right thing. Find a dealer that lets you place a tentative order. The bigger the dealership the more allocations they will get obviously. Make sure to confirm your spot in line. If you are not #1 or #2 maybe look elsewhere and see if you can get a better spot. That's all you can do at this point. I don't expect more then a handful 718 S allocations for all of MY '19 at my dealer. Which I would call a medium sized dealership.

That's pretty much what I imagined the process to be. I don't have a feeling for whether there are some dealers that are "more equal" than others but I'm sure there is some pecking order in operation. Unfortunately, my dealer isn't large but it is close(est) and the SA has been very helpful and I do believe I am #1 on the list. Time will tell (unfortunately).

It's interesting that Porsche cut off allocations of MY'18 S variants quite a while back and by your reckoning will limit those in the MY'19 case as well. Not sure I understand their logic there but they didn't ask me. I would have been happy placing an order for a MY '18 had that option been available in December.
