I've Navigation ad Connect Plus option.

The Porsche Car Connect App, works. (remote car control, geo fence, etc..)

I've the integrated SIM (standard in Italy) so i've always internet connection on.

The car hotspot works, tried with a tablet and my android phone, and I can connect them to car hotspot to have internet.

I've, instead, problems with the Porche Connect APP.

I've seen that, by PC app I can use directly from car the music services like Prime Music, Napster..

That doesn't work.

It says me that I need to establish wi-fi connection between the phone (where the app is) an the car.

I establish the wi-fi connection, but the APP don't see it, it says I'm not connected.. and also says that "the app must be running in background"

Anyone have this issue?

Any solution?

It only works with Apple.
Not true, at least with Porsche Connect Plus.

@Calimerus: I'm not sure how this works in the EU/Italy, but in the U.S. you have to register your car with My Porsche first via email to activate full Connect or Connect Plus functionality. That should have happened before you took delivery of your car.

Then, when the registration is complete and after your car's SIM card is activated (sounds like that's done if your Wi-Fi Hotspot is working), you'll get an 8-digit code that is used to activate and 'pair' your car's PCM with your My Porsche account. That code is entered into the car through the PCM, either by you or by your dealer.

Here's the Italian version of the Porsche Connect portal site. I'd go through it and check that everything has been set up properly.

Also: by 'app running in the background', Porsche almost certainly means both the app you want to use and the Porsche Connect app have to be running -- otherwise, PCM doesn't know when to initiate control of the third-party app.

I've already tried everything ;)

One APP works (Porsche car connect) and i can see mileage, fuel, open mirrors..

The other App (Porsche connect), don't works.. because, in the app it says me that the APP itself does not connect to my car.

I think it could be an APP/Android/or my phone settings or compatibility problem...

I hoped someone already had this issue or knows where the problem is.

Anyway that APP is pretty useless, It's just connect to music services or makes online destination search, two things that I can already do directly on the car PCM.

But, you know, there's this option more, and I'd like to find out how to make It working :nerd:

@Calimerus - I posted a response yesterday which seems to have gone the way of the Porsche connect app. The gist of the post is that it is 100% useless with Android. Also, the embedded sim provides data ONLY for the 3d maps and POIs. Life traffic is questionnable as it is so out of date in all circumstances. @Gtipirelli and I are both on the lookout for any solutions which we'll post about for sure if we find something. Someone on here posted a link to a rumour that Porsche had finally relented and would provide Android auto for the PCM.

There is a hodgepodge of different features in different apps.

I got mine (CPO) with Porsche Navigation and Infotainment and the embedded SIM card installed.

This gives you Navigation (I believe is a Tom Tom program) and certain Infotainment options as you can see in the poor photo of the screen.
Display device Technology Multimedia Electronic device Font

Purportedly you get Twitter and Traffic and Gas Station Locations. I have to say that the embedded SIM is sooo slow, it is practically worthless...

You can register with Porsche for the Porsche Connect, it's free and it gives you the Porsche Connect app in your phone (Android).

That gives you a few more options in the infotainment (it adds a second screen, as you see below. You may notice that the last item of the previous screen (Legal Notice) has migrated to the second screen. In its place, in the first screen you have Application POIs, called Favorites in the App)

Electronics Electronic device Technology Computer hardware Compact cassette

At this point, I have to say that I gave up on the embedded SIM and got an additional SIM card from my provider. Things got faster and my wife can log in in the car's network and get internet for her tablet in the long trips (you can't log in a second device on the embedded SIM)

So far, so good. Why do I need all this [email protected]? Not to get Napster, of course. You can keep Twitter also...>:D

Did I tell you that there is no Voice Input on the Navigation system? Porsche decided that if you want to have input in your NAV system, you better get off the freeway, park in a safe spot, and give your input manually on the touchscreen. Welcome to the 20th century!>:D

Well, with the vaunted Porsche Connect app, you can do a search on the phone via voice, all you have to do is touch the microscopic microphone icon in the phone's touchscreen. If (and it is a big if) it understands you, it may find the place and provide a route. Then all you have to do is:

Touch the microscopic star in the phone's screen to add it to the Favorites

Touch the Porsche touch screen to recal Nav,

Touch the Porsche touch screen again to scroll until you see 'App POI's', these are the App 'Favorites'

Touch the Porsche touch screen to select App POI's

Touch the new screen in the Porsche touch screen to select your intended POI

Touch the Porsche Touch screen to confirm that the proposed route is a 'go'.

Easy eh! Don't forget to drive safely...

I like the offerings of the Porsche Car Connect, especially the Geo fencing. Parking in a valet parking is in my future and I don't want the valet to go joyriding like Ferris Buehler....

The end result?

I tried to install Android Auto. Very similar to Car Play, but for Android phones. The compatibility list (for almost all modern brands was the same for Android Auto and Apple CarPlay) WITH THE NOTABLE EXCEPTION OF PORSCHE.

However, if you have an iPhone, you can run CarPlay and then you have Siri integrated to the Porsche Voice Command system, you press the left stalk and you talk to Siri. You can also have Google Maps and Waze.

So, I became the disgruntled owner of a iPhone 8.

I wouldn't say entirely useless, but very last century...

As far as the Android rumor goes, the salesman at the Porsche dealer, who helped me with CarPlay, told me he'd heard the same rumor (Sep 2018), but added with meaning 'probably, there will be a PCM upgrade fee...';)

Back to the original question:

You have to find your Porsche WLAN and connect to it. for the Porsche Connect to work. If you do it in your garage, and your phone is connected to your home LAN/WiFi, then the phone does not connect (Bluetooth will not do it).

Interestingly, you can turn off the app on the phone, (by pressing the square icon 'button' and killing the app) and somehow, for a few days, it will reconnect once in the car and connected to the Porsche WLAN. Since I don't use it anymore in favor of the Apple CarPlay, I am amazed that sometimes the app icon shows up next to signal strength (provided I don't hardwire CarPlay in by hooking it up to the USB).

PS: One interesting thing about CarPlay:

I used Google Maps to go someplace in the other side of Houston. I was in a hurry, so when I arrived, I unhooked the iPhone and left. When I was done, my wife suggested to go to some restaurant (chain) for lunch, so I asked Siri to find it and agreed to go there.

Approaching the freeway, I was getting conflicting instructions, practically 180 degrees opposite, 'go this way' 'no, make a U-turn and go the other way...'

It took me a while to figure out that Google Maps still had the old destination point and was trying maniacally to get me back there running in the background, while Siri, ignoring the Google Maps already running, called Apple Maps and Apple Maps was giving me directions for the new destination simultaneously!!..

Mine is exactly the same, BUT the problem is that even if I connect via wi-fi my phone, the app don't see that is connected...

So the Amazon Music ICON don't pop up in the screen. :(

Here in Italy it's a fast LTE or 4G network, so it works good. :D

Also here is different.

I have the voice search :D

I think Porsche made it different in every country :|:|

I know it.. but it doesn't work the same :(

I think it's an ANDROID related problem....

Any Android Guru here to solve the mistery? :crying:

I have 4G LTE, the external SIM card is 4G LTE, the internal SIM card? No idea... You have voice control with Android or Navigation infotainment package? Mine, if the iPhone is not in the car, it says this application is not supported

And I thought that the Porsche connectivity could not get worse... It just did!

It is not just mistery, it is misery!

The internal sim is 4G LTE

Everything in the car works without my phone.

I have the navigation voice search, google online search, apps, poi, news, twitter... everything is working and my phone is NOT connect to wi-fi.

I only connect the phone via Bluetooth, if I want to listen music.

........mmmmmm

Now I'm starting to think one thing...... mine is a MY2019....

When I first placed order, we used the 2018 configurator, but at the end my car became a My2019.

So, in September, the vendor called me in a hurry, to tell me that they had to change some option (due to model year change) and ask me if I agreed with that.

One of the changes regarded the infotainment system...

May be the My2019 works differently?

May be that's the answer to my problem with PC android APP? May be the app is for My2018 infotainment?

may be... :|

The apps are the same in my infotainment and work with the embedded SIM.

EXCEPT for voice commands.

I tried with the phone off, with WiFi only for connection and with BT as well. Pressing the left stalk gives me a message that voice is not available. Not for Navigation, or any other application.

Not with Porsche Connect either.

Strange.... I can ask for everything with the voice command and NO phone inside the car

Anyway... I've just come back from my garage and...........

It' worked!!!!!

The Prime Music/Radio/Napster APPS popped up!!!

Stupid app...

Found that:

- If my own phone LTE connection is on, the app doesn't connect to car
- If the GPS in my phone is OFF, the app doesn't connect to car

Also need to connect the phone first and than ask te car to connect

And if I don't do in the right order and if I take too much time or too less time to do the procedure or whatever... it doesn't work.

weird

Anyway, now my heart is in peace... and I can continue to use BT only to listen to music, that is much easier
