I read elsewhere that the Porsche factory in Stuttgart would be closed for 6 months in 2018 (according to a person who is in Asia and is waiting to order a Cayman).

I understand a summer shutdown......but SIX months?

Does this make any sense? I find this hard to believe. Anyone hear anything related to this?

The salesman who sold me the Cayman said it was for three months as they needed to change part of the production line to accommodate Mission E stuff and the new exhaust systems that need to be fitted on the cars from later this year.

Porsche is not only outfitting Stuttgart/Zuffenhausen for Mission E, it's also outfitting the plant for the next-gen 911, mules of which have been seen numerous places in the wild. I've theorized that a hybrid next-gen 911 could be in the offering based on internet chatter, sightings, and what other cars the next-gen 911 is being road-tested against (NSX, for one).

I could see a six-month shutdown happening. That said, 718 overrun production is performed at the plant in Osnabruck, so 718 production will never completely cease.
