That doesn't mean I wouldn't rock a GTS4.0 or a GT4. I just don't really care how the power is made, give me a bada$$ EV Sports car with the range and charging support of gas stations and I'd be happy.
I'm with you in this actually.
Second hand 718 flat 4 market is a result of those "purists".
As a potential buyer for a used Cayman I have to thank them :)
It's interesting to see how reviews (from journalists and bloggers/vloggers mostly) can make people's mind and impact so much on vehicle's market.

Sorry if this was already posted...

I think most of the complainers about the Turbo 4 haven't owned one. Having owned a 2014 981 and a 2017 718 Boxster I wouldn't even consider buying a Boxster with the flat 6 in it. That low end torque is something you experience every time you start moving. The noise on the older 6 only comes into play when you are over 5,000 RPM. In my normal driving I very seldom get that high because most of my driving is in the city. I now like the sound of the Turbo. To each his own but I think the purists don't know what they are talking about when talking down the Turbo 4.

Maybe EV—but I do like a good sound. I really like uneven beat of the 4 and even with the standard exhaust (not PSE) I think it sounds great at all revs (I grew up with V8s). It might lack a little above 4000-5000 rpm at high throttle but so little of my time is spent there I wouldn't trade it for what I've got. And I definitely wouldn't trade away the low end torque. I even had the exhaust on my Moto Guzzi tuned for torque even though it was quieter than the maximum power tune.

I am sure that the 4 cylinder cars have lost some parts of the market that were probably more purist, but they have opened up other markets. For instance there is market that like to tune cars, and there was not much you could do to improve the power of the 6, but the 4 is begging for it. Easy to make big gains with minimal outlay. There will be many upgrading from more traditional Subaru/BMW turbo markets into the entry level Porsche sports car market.

I personally have come from previously tuned Subarus/BMWs. I love the handling of the mid engined Porsche, but I was struggling with the idea of buying a beautiful looking car that would struggle to accelerate faster than a sports oriented family wagon. The turbo 4 fixed that. I really love the sound of the 6, but the 4 sounds great also... in a different way. If like me, you appreciate the sound of a nice Subaru, the Porsche sounds different... but in the same vein. Certainly it sounds good enough that you would not consider losing the performance just to have a small improvement in noise. Of course many who raise their nose to a Subaru would not agree!!

I just ignore the sound BS. I have owned Porsches since the 1970s. In the 1980s and early 1990s I was an active PCA member. After buying my 718 Cayman ( first Porsche in over 20 years ) I decided to rejoin PCA. Screw those people. The 718 is better in every way than my'90 Carrera 2. And Chris Harris and all the other socalled journalists are just a bunch of paid off idiots. Porsche just didn't pay these jerks enough to write positive reviews.

Due to a lifetime of riding Harleys I have a definite need for the Torque.

Plus, it looks like an affinity for 4cyl mid engine Porsches.

Or maybe I'm just a Masochist. and love the abuse of Porsche Purists.....

It’s the American YouTube window licking shock jocks running their cockfilled clickbait orifices...

Ask me how I really feel!

I don’t think the rest of the world has as big of an issues with the F4T as our entitled American YouTube kids.
Too many of the Danish Porsche enthusiasts are also vocal opponents of the F4T, to such a degree that I have entirely quit commenting on the Danish Porsche Clubs Facebook page and is just passively observing.
Many might be influenced by some of the popular motor journalists and YouTubers, but I highly suspect that some are just stuck-up.
The F4T might be somewhat of an acquired taste in parts of the Porsche enthusiast world, but I think if people just gave it a chance they would see its greatness.
Even after getting my 911 I am still of the conviction that if I could keep only one of my two Porsches, I would be happiest with my 718 Boxster (and I actually believe that would be my choice if it came to that).
This is of course not only because of the F4T but in equal parts due to the fantastic chassis.

911 has turbo and in IMO it killed the sound. Do I hate it? Nope! Don’t care how you make power as long as it’s an improvement.

In the future I predict the 911 will be further down sized in displacement with more turbo, which will make it sound different yet again. So what as long as it’s better!

You know what they say about opinions... “unless your a sheeple parroting what you’ve been told, STFU because your opinion doesn’t count”

Wait, I think I messed that up.... or did I?

I would bet in hybridization rather.

911 turbo without turbo? :D
Seems plausible...

Mass suicide of purists.

Not a perfect comparison, but I really do believe driving my high-revving sonorous Lotus Elise is very much like driving a 981 Cayman. I love the Elise, but to enjoy it you have to push it hard, and low end torque is not there. I drive to the gym every morning and I alternate between the Elise and my 718. For me, the 718 provides far more fun than the Elise when driving the speed limit and accelerating in traffic. There is an effortlessness with the 718. Even my V8 Audi S5 (another car journalists laud for exhaust sound) feels uninspiring when accelerating from below 20 MPH.
I simply cannot understand folks who prefer a gut-less low torque engine to a high torque engine. I honestly think many are poseurs attuned more to status than performance.
