Long time ago (late sixties) I remember reading in a car magazine, a 'futuristic' article about the 'post ICE' times. Those days we knew nothing about global warming, electric cars etc.
The author had a dark view of the future, oil would be scarce, reserved for the elites, outrageously expensive. Car ownership would be outlawed in favor of mass transit (unless you were an elite, of course...) and even the elites would by rationed gas...
The author had an Alfa Romeo Giulietta hidden in the woods and once a month, acolytes would make the pilgrimage to the hideout to hear the engine being turned on and run for a few minutes. Once a year, or so, a ship would smuggle gasoline from Saudi Arabia, the acolytes would gather, and, with the gasoline supply once again secured, the author would run the Giulietta around for half an hour or so...
I can't remember the ending, the police raided the place and he did something heroic...
