Hello all... Picked up my 718 last weekend and would like to get PPF done.

I have searched on here a bit and have not seen this specific question so I figured I'd just ask.

What would be the minimum PPF needed?

I was quoted around $750-800 for front bumper, half hood and fenders, and mirrors. I am curious how many have received rock chips on the upper portion of the hood.

I am also considering getting the rocker panels done as well....

Let me know why you all have done.

Firstly, I am a big fan of the use of PPFs and my protection recommendation is to get the track kit even if you don't intend to track the car since these are all high impact areas. Specifically, I would at a minimum recommend full front clip (bumper, front trunk hood, front fenders), backs of mirrors and rocker panels. There is still some controversy about applying a PPF to the headlights because of the concern about delamination but on my upcoming Porsche I will have it done, and the reason is both my headlights on my 718 after 7K miles had several chips each. The reasoning that makes sense to me about the headlights is it's easier to repair a delaminated headlight then a chipped one........I will be covering the headlights next go around.

This is the same coverage I have, I wish I would have done the whole hood! I think Arizona is the rock chip capital of the world! I already have a few small chips that I fix with touch up paint! If you drive it, it’s going to get chipped sooner or latter! I like driving more than I worry about the imperfections I cause in the process! But full coverage would help.

One additional comment, make sure you are comfortable with the very visible line across the front hood with partial coverage........I wasn't, to me it looks suboptimal.......translation terrible.
I was wondering how that line would look after applying sealants and wax. I prefer it to a coating.

I have 3 small chips now that were there in the 2500 miles before I owned it.

I'll be getting the entire car treated with a thermoplastic coating, that is sprayed on. No lines, can make it any color I want, and it can be cut and buffed, with no sticky residue leftover if I need to rip and replace. NGENCO.uk.com
My local PPF installer has already started doing installs.

Definitely do the full hood, since the horizontal line can be quite visible. I'd also strongly recommend doing the rear spoiler -- it will prevent scratching is a careless person pulls something from the trunk without lifting it enough.

I already have a rock chip that penetrated my Suntek Ultra.
I’m in the same boat. My car barely hit a 100miles and already have two chips through the film on rocker panel in front of rear wheel, and one in front bumper. My guy used suntek ultra as well.. I’m really starting to question whether it’s even worth paying the additional money for ppf.. does anyone know of a solution to stop rock from being thrown on rocker??

What Porsche owners are doing in select high impact areas is putting a second "sacrificial" layer down to avoid penetration......maybe a little late for you if you already have penetration and damage. I attached a picture of where some Porsche owners tend to apply the second "sacrificial" layer but that also will depend on how you drive and whether you track your car or where find the damage most significant.

...I've been told by some, I tend to be quite opinionated. Well, to that I make no apologies, but if we're honest, probably most of our forum members are too. I do not profess to know it all. With that said, (get ready for another opinionated response), just when I thought I heard it all regarding PPFs,....Really?.... a second "sacrificial" layer? I'll say again, I feel people are going PPF crazy and still feel many, who are unaware, are being lead to believe they're not doing due diligence if a PPF is not applied shortly after delivery. Yes, I get it, the overall rationale, (all previously discussed), especially heavily tracked cars, but I wager most PPF'd cars do not fall into this category. I still question potential paint issues after long term PPF's, say 10 years down the road or less, or do the manufacturers recommend replacing said PPFs at certain time intervals? If that were the case then I'd question ROI. I'm also not convinced all these "penetrations" would have caused definitive chips if a PPF had not been applied, after all there is a certain amount of "hardness" and yes chip resistance to a good paint process. The PPF is obviously softer..can't chip but can be "sacrificed", read punctured or torn. So will I be PPFing my 2019 GT4? Highly unlikely. I have been and will always be a fan of a good quality waxing, although I'm intrigued by the concept of ceramic coatings, assuming they actually reinforce the paint once applied and do not potentially create a more brittle surface. Once again, my non expert opinion...to each their own...so those in favor, PPF til your hearts are content! Hats off to those of us who are non conformists!?

I think people tend to believe that PPF should be there forever or not ever get marred or sacrificed. That's what it's there for. You would only need to replace certain sections of heavy abuse every 2 years or so and it removes easily. Cost of PPF to cost of car repaint is easy to measure.
Of course you could also do the Dr. Colorchip paint fix every so often too.

...understood, but all the years of driving sports cars I've never had one with any appreciable paint damage, let alone require a repaint and this goes back way before PPFs became the "thing to do". And those few chips, (and I do mean few), here and there, never affected resale value. However, none of them were ever used as track cars?
