I made a video attempting to document the preventative type fixes from the 981 generation. Many of these will carry over to the 718 since they are similar and most of these are quite general and these cars are reliable on the whole.

Nice video ! Subscribed. I was just staring at the chocolate bolts last weekend and spent some time removing the surface rust off them.

About the mesh in the intakes at the front, is it not going to somewhat restrict the air flow and potentially cause some other issues long term ? < I know if it would you probably wouldnt do it - just looking at clarifications - I am not sure whats behind those vents.

I have the Zunsport grills on my front and Radiator Grill air scoop grills installed, and after a year of use, I have nothing but nice things to say about each. There were a few bugs stuck in my radiator fins behind the front fascia before I put the grills on and a few more little bugs made it through the grills over time. When I went to prepare my car for waking up from her winter nap, apparently all the bugs had decayed and fallen out (I assume) because my radiator fins were as clean as new. In fact, having just installed a CF splitter in front, I'm pretty sure my engine is taking longer to get up to "drive fast" temperatures from more air being directed into the grills.

I also picked up a couple of good tips from @testdrive's video tutorial.

The vents are there for the cooling system and AC rads, if you don't fit them you will end up with a leak in your air con condenser(s), if you look at the GT models you will see Porsche fit those grills as standard so all good.

Is there any reason you went with two different brands? I'm looking at putting on the front grills, but wasn't sure which brand would be better as far as looks, fit and installation.

I like the front Zunsport grills because they are fairly easy to install and the visual angle kind of hides most of the outer edges of each individual grill, if that makes sense (and not sure it matters). I thought they were very high quality, but the side grills look better with grills behind the vanes, IMHO. You have to be careful taking off the part, but the Radiator Grill grills seem to stay where you put them. I see the front grills as major protection and the scoop grills as augmenting the interior slot vents in reducing the size of crap that gets to the air filter.

@dave92101 here are my Showroom pictures and there are a few featuring the front grills. The scoop screens are hard to make out in any of those pictures, but they are there. Maybe I can add one with an example before you see this.

Thanks for the link to the photos. I like that the Radiator Grill Shop side grills look more hidden. I might just order everything from them, but I'm also going to look at the installation instructions and videos for the two brands.

I just spent $2100 at Porsche Bellevue to replace my AC condenser. No joke. So, I just ordered Zunsport grills. I'm a bit late but not going to risk spending that money twice.

I had a similar thing happen on my 981 Boxster. Some road debris (one of those old-fashioned crimp-on wheel weights) got kicked up and stabbed my AC condenser with the pointy end. It was on a West Coast road trip, so I went from Portland to San Diego with no AC. The bill was $1500, but that was in 2015.

I just bought the front and side grills from the Radiator Grill Store and will be installing them this weekend on my 718 BS.

When I was in the dealership for my last HPDE inspection last year, I was looking under the car with the mechanic and discussing bits and pieces. Before I went back into the waiting area, I asked him what he thought about the front grills, and he said, "Well, you're probably saving a couple of grand with those."

I did the same and for the reasons mentioned. Zunsport for the front and Radiator Grills for the side intakes.

Just ordered a set of Zunsport front grills for my GTS. Makes sense to protect those radiators. It’s costing a lot of money to read this forum! By the way, aren’t the engine side intakes covered under a Porsche service bulletin for some kind of grill retrofit?

Just ordered this,
Carfully cut to the right shape with scissors, hold in place behind the grills, pop a couple of 2mm black zip ties in the corners and bobs your uncle, a set of protected radiator covers that performs the same job but $400 cheaper!!!

Cheers

Take a flashlight and look in the side intakes and if you see a series of slats in flat piece then the retrofit/update has been done to your vehicle. Mine is a 2019 model and came with it. So I have a grill covering my slats. Pretty type A of me, but when I see what people are finding in their air intake boxes, I'd like to reduce everything but the air.

While we are on the topic, a while back someone asked whether anyone had successfully removed the factory-installed recall slats from their cars after installing grill coverings. I don't think anyone responded. I wouldn't mind getting rid of mine since I have grill coverings. Just curious, again.

When I took my Boxster in for the 'recall slats' I already had a set of (home-made) grills in the side openings. The dealer re-installed mine after he fitted the slats—and kindly asked if that was OK prior to the fitting.

I've not noticed any difference in water or oil temperature as a result of either set-up.

Any tips on installing the Zunsport grills on the front of a GTS? It looks like it should be so easy but I can’t figure out what I’m trying to hook where and where I’m supposed to push the clips down to with the screwdriver. Unfortunately I’ve already scratched the opening a bit trying to fiddle with things.
