Greetings all! I had intended to purchase a used base 718 Boxster months ago but life and the coronavirus delayed all that. The up side is I've had more time to save so now I'm looking at new/-ish 2019s instead. I'm being selective on features: only base models with LCA, Bose and Premium+ventilation (or premium plus) and colors (no black or red).

Apparently it's a buyers market everywhere except Porsche dealerships. The best deal I've been able to negotiate for a "new" car is 20% off MSRP for a Certified untitled demo with 5k miles ($60k). The next best deal is a 1-owner CPO with 6500mi also for 20% off ($60k). Truly new <100mi vehicles won't budge from 15% off max ($64k).

I think I'm gonna pull the trigger on the demo with 5k miles at 20% off. It's got all the features I want except CarPlay which the dealer offered to code in (hopefully at no cost?). I'm not sure it's a "great" deal, though... what do you all think?

If it's the car that you're interested in, with all the boxes checked, go for it. I think CPO is worth its weight in gold and is the best way to purchase a Porsche, but that's just me.

I still don't believe that it's a buyers market and amazing deals are everywhere. if it is... great, go buy and be happy.

Flip side and my opinion is that dealers know manufacturing is stopped. So why sell heavily discounted when you may have one of the few NEW cars available. Current orders are delayed and I imagine many will cancel just because they wanted it sooner than later. In general, those in the market for higher end cars are probably not overly concerned with their current financial status, or if they can make next months nut to cover bills.

It is my opinion that with the supply of new cars drying up, the used market is the only spigot still flowing. Sure there will be a few outliers that may be in a different position and will need to sell their car, and sell it fast. But I believe those deals are far and few between. Heck, If I could find a fire sale on a great car I'd buy it.

In general, people are simply not buying cars (new or used) like we were prior to this pandemic.... so it's neither a Buyers Market or a Sellers Market. The market has basically closed!

I personally think you should go for it. I had my car built to my spec and managed an 8% (with tire/wheel insurance included), and had to be kind to it for the first 4,000 miles. If you can get the CarPlay in as part of the deal, that would be even better.

Yeah I'm a little nervous about buying online without seeing it in person, but it is what it is. It's only a 4 hour drive away (or 1 hour flight), and under normal circumstances I'd drive/fly down, but given the current situation it's probably not worth the risk.

Build date was just under a year ago and in-service date was only 6 months ago, so with CPO I doubt I could do better with the spec I'm looking for.

I sent a deposit to hold the car this evening. They did the 1st year service, and CarPlay is getting added tomorrow. I've got a phone call scheduled with the salesperson tomorrow to discuss next steps, remote payment, and transport before he overnights the paperwork.

Fingers crossed there are no surprises.

Assuming no surprises, 20% off MSRP for a CPO'd 2019 demo with the options you want sounds like a reasonable deal all around. I would be inclined to counter lower, but that just may be how I'm wired! I agree with HooosierDaddy's comments about the used market. I could believe that a dealer may not be motivated to give anything away right now.

Good luck!

Let us know how the CarPlay works out as a dealer added feature.
Not very well, apparently. Check has cleared, paperwork has been signed and I still don't have the car days later because of CarPlay.

Apparently the dealer-installed CarPlay is no longer a "add a license and you're done" feature and requires additional parts which had to be procured and will then need to be installed. Had I known it was going to be this involved I would've paid extra for the one with CarPlay from the factory.

So far not super thrilled with the experience, but hopefully it all get better once I get the car.

Sorry to hear that. I was in the exact same boat. I found the car I wanted - albeit 20 hours away - and had it shipped. I received it two days ago. The dealer said it didn't have CarPlay. I was going to add it, but 5 minutes after getting in my car, my 15 year old son discovered that mine indeed had Apple Car Play. I'm really glad as I was going to add it. As much as anything I wanted some color to break up all the black on my interior.

Well I finally got the car last week - I love it!

BTW the dealer-installed CarPlay works perfectly. It's seamless - just plug it in and you've got nav+music. The "push for siri" button on the stalk doesn't work since the car doesn't have the voice control/nav options, but press-hold the white buttons on the CarPlay display does the same thing.

Thanks everyone for your input. If you're looking to buy now - some good deals to be had, but be patient. It took over two weeks to get my car which was only 4 hours away.

Bought mine online, though flew down and drove back once all sorted, but same asked dealer via email does It have car play, he said no, connected iPhone on picking up car a week later, and boom car play!

Going brilliantly, few small niggles fixed up under warranty, done all the servicing myself (oil and filter, air filter, front rotors and pads), loving every minute of it...

Looks great! Glad your experience has been less frustrating than mine. The dealer I bought from seems to not be great with planning/estimating duration of work to be done. I still don’t have a permanent registration or license plate (and the temp 30 day one they gave me flew off the car!) nor do I have a title yet. The temporary papers they gave me expire in 4 days and they keep telling me I should get the permanent one any day now... they even sent me a fedex tracking number! Except the tracking number has been in “shipping label created” status since last week, so nothing has actually been shipped. Sketchy.
The car itself is great, though... but except for a few short trips I’m wary to drive it for fear of getting pulled over.
