So I tried to program the HomeLink garage door opener in my 718 Boxster to my Crawford garage port (rebranded Normstahl).
But I couldn't really make it work.
The system is European 433MHz and with rolling code.

Are there any tips other than what the manual says?

I was thinking of buying a cheep remote system of ebay without rolling code and install that just to have it function.
I would assume that technology nowadays has advanced so much that it would not be a problem for thieves to grab and clone rolling codes, so the loss in security level without rolling code is minimal?

My SA suggested that the instructions in our manual would not work, and gave me a file which appears to be too large to attach here. It worked. I believe the file came off of the Homelink web site - they have a menu to instructions that match a car to a garage door opener. Sorry I can't attach; I'll try to PM next. You could try the Homelink site as well.

Edit - there are no file attachments in PM. But then my instructions will be different than yours, because we have different door openers.

I just programmed mine last night. I have a rolling code opener as well, and I followed the instructions in the manual. I must admit, I was very skeptical as that procedure was unlike any of my previous cars, but it worked.

  1. I cleared all previous codings, pressed it once to put it in learning mode (slow flash of the red light).
  2. Used a handheld garage remote, and pressed and held the button near the front of the car until three flashes of the hazard lights
  3. ...BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE!
  4. I then had to press the program button on my garage door opener/motor, followed by several presses of the newly programmed button in the car.
  5. This is the step that synchronizes the car's transmitter to the opener

I tried everything and finally checked the compatibility list on the homelink site and found it wasn’t compatible.

I put an old sensor back in the garage door (I’d replaced it previously as a way of upgrading remotes) and it worked first time using the Porsche instructions.

Thanks for the hint, the instructions on Homelink's website seem rather different than those in the Porsche instructions, so I will try these and see if they work.

Thank you for the tips, i had trouble programming before and my steps were wrong. I was doing the last step first (hitting the learning button), as my wife's Mercedes works that way.

The only thing that i did different was holding the garage remote to the home link buttons and it read it just fine instead of in front of the car.

so happy i dont have to carry around the garage remote anymore.

Success! I finally got the 2019 Cayman HomeLink to work on my Craftsman opener. I wish I could say what actually worked, but I'm still not sure. Some of the steps may be superstitious and unnecessary.

I tried the hints above multiple times without linking. I also tried the HomeLink Porsche instructions at https://www.homelink.com/program/instructions/us/5/0/1/27830/2517/111/0/0/39/0/3/other/0/1/usenglish, and decided to use combine the instructions in a final desperate attempt to use HomeLink.

The sequence was: Silvia in the garage; : Ignition on; Deprogram all buttons; Press and hold both the remove and the HomeLink button at the same time while holding the remove beneath the rearview mirror; Slow flashing for >60 seconds; get impatient, release HomeLink button, continue to hold remote button and move to the the front of Silvia; Still holding the remote button, push the Program button on the Motion Detecting Control Console on the wall; the turn signals still haven't flashed 3 times; After an additional >60 seconds become more impatient and sat down in the car; Noticed the red HomeLink is flashing rapidly; Release the remote button; Press the HomeLink button 4-6 times (yeah, got impatient again and I can't remember how many); and she works! No, the turn signals never flashed 3 times.

Sorry for the trouble you've experienced, but you may just have to purchase a new opener. I was connected to my old one, then when I recently replaced both garage doors, I cleared the settings and connected my 2018 Boxster to both within 30 seconds, so it is possible to get it to work just by following the manual.

My recommendation is to talk directly with an Opener CSR. Had similar issues last year programming a Sommer (German) to my bride's 2017 SL450 and was ready to throw in the towel. However, One call to Homelink and all was copasetic. Apparently, some openers have unique programming steps that aren't listed online or in the manual. The Homelink rep walked me through the entire process and it worked immediately.

Same issue with the Suburban several years ago (security gate), except Homelink referred us directly to the gate opener manufacturer. One phone call during “normal” business hours solved the problem. Good Luck!

I don't think I ever got the three flashes of the hazard lights, but otherwise I followed your directions--which are a heck of a lot more concise than other sources--and mine paired on first try. Gracias amigo!:D
