Hi. I just had PSE installed on my 2018 718 base PDK Cayman. I’m hearing a sound that I haven’t heard with the windows up. We had nice weather today so I drove around the neighborhood only up to about 45 to 50 mph. As I was driving I noticed what sounded like a spooling (woosh) sound as I accelerate. I’m not sure if that’s normal. Is it possible that that is a turbo sound? It’s my first turbo. Inside the car, I don’t hear anything except for a nice exhaust note that is meaner than it was before I installed PSE. With the windows down, I find that spooling sound to be kind of annoying. Is this a normal sound? Do other people hear this? It could even be just wind, but I don’t think so, Considering I just put down $4000 for this exhaust, I want to make sure that nothing is wrong.

Hello I am already ordered a PSE for my 2017 base Cayman. my local Porsche dealer will bring it to stock in 15-20 days so hopefully in a mounth I will have a PSE. can I learn your experience after couple of mounths if you are happy with your PSE purchase if the sound changed significantly and overall experience about it. thanks in advance.

I have owned 718 with and without Pse
And pse is louder without a doubt, but flap open/close does not ad as much as on 981.

Is the difference worth 4000$ as compared to the original non PSE exhaust?
What made you choose PSE over any aftermarket exhaust which would probably be louder and cheaper?
I'd like to install an aftermarket exhaust but I'm worried about warranty problems and the need to go back to stock every time I have a TUV inspection. Original PSE might be a better option to go for

Thanks!

With the valves closed, does the PSE sound more, the same or less than the stock non PSE exhaust?
It is louder but not near an aftermarket exhaust.
I dont think it is worth the money..

first, the difference with valve open/closed is to small (only one valve)
and second it is not loud enough to be a sport exhaust

Thanks, that's what I was afraid of. I think I'll rule PSE out. Problem with aftermarket exhausts is that I guess I will not be able to purchase an extended warranty in case I want to in the future and that TUV inspections in Spain are very restrictive, so I'll have to roll back to the stock exhaust initially once every 4 years and then every 2 years. In fact I'm already doing this on my Mazda MX5/Miata, but on that car it's quite simple to replace the catback at home just by raising the car a little with a jack and then crawling yourself under the car. Not sure if this might be feasible on the 718 if you only replace the catback. What do you guys think?

I like the sound of the PSE (on) in the Sport mode, for all the burbles and sharp crackles it produces. If I turn PSE to 'off' while on Sport mode, I don't hear much. For me it is worth it.

YMMV

Agreed... I love putting the car into sport mode. Actually, that's my default driving setting. Adding the sport cat also allows the turbo to be heard, and between that and the exhaust I'm one happy person. :D

My big question is: When on Sport mode, does the non-PSE exhaust sound like the PSE with open or with closed valves?
Basically, I'm asking whether the valves on the PSE are used to make it quieter than the non-PSE or to make it louder. I assume it's the latter.

A non PSE in sport is not as loud as a PSE with the valve closed in sport.
But if you open the valve there aint much of a difference, in normal mode it is hard to hear if the valve is open or close.

PSE mufflers are smaller then non PSE due to one baffle on the inside is gone, to make it louder.
So in a non PSE both muffler are always fully used but on PSE the right muffler are only fully used with the valve open.

Oem non PSE

PSE, just before the right muffler you have the valve

Great posts - I have a 718 Base without PSE. My question is how complicated is it for the Dealer to install the wiring for the PSE button on the console? I watched a Dealer install a PSE on a 911 and the mechanics had to take out the seats, and console to connect the wiring...seemed really complicated. Thanks in advance.
