I got my PSM light to appear with a message to go to the dealer and drive carefully, but it went away after restarting the car and hasn't reappeared. Called the dealer and we set up an appointment to get me on the books but we'll cancel if it doesn't come back before then (two weeks out).

At the time, I was accelerating onto an expressway, maybe hit 6000 rpm in 2nd.

I dont think you have a problem. Apparently this alarm is not that uncommon and, best I can tell, including my own experience, clears after a restart.

Immediately after inadvertently stalling my Boxster while backing out of a space recently, the alarm locked in. It stated "PSM failure - Consult a workshop - Drive with caution" and the orange car symbol with skid marks lit by "6" on the tach. I truned it off and immediately restarted it but the alarm remained locked in. However, after arriving home and then restarting it sometime later, the alarm was clear and has remained clear.

From what I read the PSM throws this alarm sometimes if only slightly provoked by a transient only event.

Just a question, was the on-ramp steeply angled, like more than 30 degrees?

Well maybe not a fluke. Second Check Engine Light (ever) showed up yesterday as I was again accelerating on the highway (same highway, different exit).

I wondered about starting my trip with the light and ending it with Porsche Roadside Service towing me to a dealership with a closed (Saturday) service department and no one there to give me a loaner car, remembered my car insurance should cover the ride-share home and continued the drive.
Car ran fine, engine was smooth, delivered 34.5 mpg on the two hour drive there and 35.4 on the drive home.
The first CEL cleared itself from the display on the first restart and this one hasn't yet.
Fortunately I still have the appointment so I can drop it off on Tuesday morning for diagnosis and have a loaner car (my guess: Macan) ready if the car needs work.

Here are the notes from the replacement. I'm not sure, but I started hearing a fluttering sound from the turbo at acceleration before the lights happened. I also wonder if I could have detected the problem by monitoring the turbo boost pressure (I have the voltage selected on the PCM screen instead). So far so good but I haven't been able to really test out the car yet; too much traffic on the way home from the dealer.

Moving this thread to the 'Tuning and Turbo' subforum since it has to do with failed waste gate linkage that led to complete turbo replacement.

Well, it happened to me again. And I left out a little detail in my previous post, which now appears to be most important. Both of these events happened after washing the car.

At startup, the car ran very poorly, poor response from a start, felt like it might stall, sounded awful, got Engine Control fault and PSM Failure in the MFD, corresponding warning lights on the tach, right after turning out of the driveway. Went about a mile, shut it off, re-started - and everything was fine. Sound, response, no stored messages.

This is going to be a pain in the ass to live with, or diagnose.

Hey duegatti, what was the resolution to this issue in the end? I have almost identical symptoms on my December 2018 Cayman base...

I haven't noticed that noise from mine, but I've seen some other weird behaviour... I have my car booked in at my OPC but was just wondering if there was a diagnosis to the above so I can give the Technicians a head start when I drop it off. Thanks to the virus I've got 3 weeks to wait - good job I don't really need to drive anywhere before then!

Boost pressure is slipping at around 12psi, and falling to around 8psi (cycling from 12psi to 8psi maybe 3 times a second) with noticeable power fluctuations that feel like a juddering.
Boost pressure sometimes never rises above around 5psi.
PSM light was coming on regularly, seemed to mainly come on following juddery power delivery under hard acceleration.
Yesterday I had a very loud noise when shifting from 1st to 2nd (PDK - but this definitely felt like an engine/turbo issue rather than gearbox) that resulted in the PSM warning and on the same journey the engine control management light came on following what felt like misfiring. I finished my journey ok but there was definite misfiring when idling - I'll be reluctant to drive anywhere until it's been looked at now.

The issues always seems to reset after a restart but there's definitely something very wrong with the turbo and maybe more...

Well, it's not resolved to my knowledge. The car was largely stored over the winter, and only washed a couple of times, and without the error messages. I did do a massive detail job a week or so ago, and it ran fine on start up. I haven't brought this up with the service department.

My car is a 2.5, btw. Good luck.

Hopefully it was just a one off for you then duegatti! From what I’ve read, the 2.0 seems to have more turbo issues than yours.

3roadster, Have you had any further issues following your replacement turbo?
