I went the local drag strip today to (1) see a couple of other local cars run namely a Dodge Demon and a ZL1 Camaro and (2) get an idea of what my 2017 Cayman S was capable of and (3) to get it on the scales.

Unfortunately the scales weren’t working but I did put down a pretty respectable time in my two passes with my stock PDK non-sport Chrono equipped car (11.981 @ 115.4 and 11.984 @115.86). My 60 ft was 1.811 and 1.787 on the respective runs and I used the launch control on both passes. I will probably never do this again but it’s good to know it’s not a 12.3 or 12.7 quarter mile car as I have seen elsewhere.

It was 65 degrees and the elevation there is 548 ft. Not sure what the DA was.

Glad to see other Porsche drivers trying the drag strips. The little 2.5L 4-cylinder surprises many people!

Altitude makes a difference, here in Florida (sea level) I've gotten 11.722 at 117.12mph bone stock on the factory tires. I've gotten 60' times in the high 1.6s.

Those times are incredible, especially for a car without "sport chrono". How did you you start ? Foot on the brake? Where you worried about wear and tear on the tranny?

Foot on brake floored the gas when the lights started on the tree and then released the brake on green. I think it got almost to 6k by then but I really wasn’t looking. The manual says it’s hard on the drivetrain but it did come with launch control so I figured I would use it to see what the car was capable of. Now I know so I would probably never use it again especially on a drag strip. I wouldn’t use it on the street either even though I think it wouldn’t be as bad since the tires would spin (they would be the weak point and give way in that scenario). Like I said, I know it’s not a drag car but there seems to be so much conflicting information on the times, speeds and hp of the car so I just wanted to test it. I’m assuming/hoping that it is engineered well enough that two uses of launch control wouldn’t damage it.

Hi - you said it was a non-Sport Chrono equipped car but says it comes with launch control, can I ask which part of the whole you’re from? - I’ve used launch control on a Chrono equipped car at PEC (which was fun) but thought it was not available on non chrono cars!? Did it show launch on the dash?

I bought the car in Florida and I am in Tennessee. I wasn’t looking at the dash straight up - I was watching the tree and also trying to watch the tach in my peripheral vision to make sure it didn’t do anything funny. I said it has launch control because it lists it on the window sticker. It did what the manual said it would. That’s all I know.

So we’re clear, could you post a pic of your steering wheel?

I said it didn’t have the Sport Chrono so no buttons on the steering wheel either. Sorry first time Porsche owner here - I pulled out the window sticker and it actually says Lauunch Vehicle not Launch Control as I thought I remembered. I Googled that and I know what it means so I stand corrected ExTTer.
