When we went in to the dealership to order my 2018 Cayman, the SM was able to locate an allocation but it required an almost instant lock in. Lucky us and a build starting almost immediately! My spouse and I had agreed upon every option but the wheels but given the time issue we mutually decided on the 19" Cayman S wheels since they are almost identical to the Cayman S wheels on my 2014 Cayman (the spokes are slightly more narrow on the 2018 version). We decided that when the tires wear out, if we want, we will order new wheels and tires.

The Question. For those of you who have the 20" Carrera Sport wheels painted either satin platinum or gloss black, have you has any issues with stone chipping and such? Our other option is the 20" Carrera Classic wheels which I like but she refers to as the "daggers" wheel in a slightly disapproving way but will accept and be happy with whatever decision I make!

By the way, a friend has the 20" Carrera S wheels in satin platinum which I also like quite a bit but they are apparently a magnet for stones and are substantially chipped after a couple of years.

I went with the stock wheels on my CS because I had read that the 20s were a bit harsh on the ride, and while black wheels on Lava Orange looks sick I was advised that they get beat up quickly. I may go with aftermarket wheels or even have my 19s painted.

Wheels

I bought my '17CS out of dealer inventory and luckily, it had the equipment I wanted for a daily driver. I have the Carrera S platinum wheels and the car rides great. The only thing that can be a little disturbing is the tire noise on worn freeway surfaces. Maybe when I replace the Goodyears with the new Michelins, some of the noise will diminish. I am wondering whether the 19" wheels might be a little quieter.
