In the context of evaluating an available car versus waiting for delivery:

Option 'IU1 - Porsche Connect' -- would it allow me to bring up Google Maps on the center console display from my Samsung Galaxy Android phone *WITHOUT* having the Porsche NAV option?

Of course I'll try it out at the dealer before making a decision, but if anyone knows I'd be obliged....

Nope. AFAIK.

I have the "Porsche Connect". Got it for the Apple Carplay functionality. It was a total waste of CAD900 (or whatever it cost).
Apple map is horrible. I knew that, but I thought I can live with it instead of factory nav.

I tried to connect an older Samsung phone to the car "just to see what happens". Nothing useful. Phone works, just like any regular bluetooth phone. Maybe my phone was too old. (was sitting in a drawer for at least 3 years...)

As much as I wanted to avoid having any removable parts visible in the car - I am looking to get a good mount and use google maps.
Nope. AFAIK.
Based on my online search, you are right. How frustrating.
