hey guys; about to make my first porsche purchase. i found a new 2019 718 that has an MSRP of $65k and they are selling for $57k and then i found a used (not CPO) 2018 that is more loaded. it has 7100 miles on it and they are asking $51K. i'm attaching the build sheet for the 718. my question mostly is, does the car have sport exhaust? the salesman seems clueless honestly. there is no button on the center console for the exhaust button so he said it does have it but i want to make sure. also, does porsche connect include apple carplay or is that something i can add later? thanks for any pointers or help.

The 2018 does not seem to have the sport exhaust, only sport tips. I think all 2019s came with sports exhaust as standard, though I could be wrong. You can add Carplay later but it will cost much more than from the factory. Suncoast sells the Car Play ”module” then labor to install it.

The 2018 does not appear to have a the multi function wheel nor sport exhaust. Apple Car Play is not optioned in if it's not on the list. That's about $750 to install after the fact I believe. It it seems to be otherwise nicely optioned.
2019 not as well optioned but does have Car Play and Multi Function wheel and I believe Sport Exhaust is standard on 2019. It does not seem to have climate control, and that's a big miss in my eyes, nor does it appear to be a the larger fuel tank.
Personally, I don't think PSE is a big deal but that's me. I'd go with the used one. It's also broken in already. Get a Pre-Purchase inspection (PPI) and overrev report since its a 6sp.

My 2018 718B has a button for sports exhaust, although the window sticker doesn't note it anywhere (no Sports Chrono or multi-function wheel). I'm not sure the reason for the difference.

Porsche Connect Plus has Apple CarPlay by default though it's not detailed in the build sheet for my car. Does Porsche Connect (how the above car is spec'd) also offer Apple CarPlay? Does someone know?

I an quite certain that in 2018 Apple Car Play was an extra cost option on top of the extra cost of Porsche Connect.

omaralt, I'm glad you have to make this decision and not me!

I agree with CM. If it were going to be mine, I'd give a slight edge to the 2018. Adding Car Play is expensive (I've been quoted about $2k parts and labor) but if it's a must have, you can cover it with the $6K savings and still have $4k leftover for gas for several years. Like CM, lack of automatic climate control on the 2019 would be a big deal for me, while lack of PSE on the 2018 is not. I love the SportChrono control knob but admit the "sport" button on the center console provides most of what I use SC for. I'm indifferent between the 19 and 20 inch wheels and to the tinted tail lights, but I know style elements are important.

I'd enjoy driving both cars very much, but the lack of automatic climate control would frustrate me every day. (Crazy, I know, until you've lived it. What other cars built today don't have auto climate???)

Good luck.

thanks, ya i agree about the climate control.. i thought BMW was bad when it came to these things lol

this wont be my daily driver; i have a 19 X5 with all the bells and whistles that would be my comfortable car, so i keep trying to convince myself that i dont need climate control, nav, etc. i keep going back to the 19 because its new and has 2 additional years of warranty. i just want to figure out if the 19 has auto rev match..

I don't know the answer to the rev match question as I've seen it authoritatively stated both ways! Drive both.

Is the 18 at a Porsche dealer? If so they should be able to CPO the car, which would give you an additional two years of warranty beyond the new car (and the rev matching question becomes moot!) Pay them to do that and install CarPlay, and you'd probably still have a couple years of gas money left over!

As I think more about it, I think there should be more room in the price of 2019 if that's what you decide on. I think I'd be looking to pay $53K-$55K. It's now one model year old despite the fact it's new. I assume the car hasn't been put into service since you say it has two years more warranty left than the 2018. That's worth double-checking. It's not unusual for dealers to have put prior year leftovers in service thus starting the warranty running.

If it doesn't have Sport Chrono, it doesn't have rev matching. Therefore, if no little dial on the steering wheel, no auto blipping of the throttle! :)
and now i'm confused. i texted the salesman and he said all 6 spd manuals have rev match...

i cant test drive them as the 18 is 1.5 hrs away and the new 19 is 4 hours away..

Sales people.... insert giant eye rolling emoji

He is incorrect.

are you sure? like 100% sure. i just spoke to the salesman and he again seemed 100% confident that it does include rev matching. they even agreed to give me $10k in discounts; so car is being sold from $65k msrp to $55k.. im about to make a 4 hour drive.. rev matching, while not a deal breaker, is important to me..

I would personally go with the 18. I believe Porsche Connect includes CarPlay. Have the dealer attach an iPhone to verify - that’s what I did when purchasing from out of state. The rev-matching is fantastic, particularly if you are not great at heel-toe like me. I hear the LED headlights are awesome too. As was also said, if it’s a Porsche dealer, they can make it a CPO for $2-3k.

at this point both cars are the same price. the 19 is new with the sports exhaust (which is standard now) and has two additional years of warranty.. you would still go with the 18?
