Hi everyone,

I have a 2017 - 718 Boxster S, manual transmission with Porsche Sport Exhaust (PSE).

My plan is to upgrade the downpipe and exhaust system to improve the exhaust note by installing:

(1) The catted downpipe from Soul Performance

(2) The 'track edition' exhaust system (basically straight pipes) from AWE.

The net result will sound like this:

I am plan on doing the work by myself with the help of a friend.
We will have access to a lift and all necessary tools.
I have limited experience with doing modifications; my friend has decent experience.

Assumptions:

1. This job should take 2-4 hours
2. Degree of difficulty - low
3. I will be removing the rear rims prior to removing the existing downpipe and exhaust system and replacing it with the new parts

Question:

The existing exhaust system on my 2017 - 718 Boxster S has Porsche Sport exhaust (PSE)
The new exhaust system from AWE is essentially a straight pipe.

When I remove the existing system, I am assuming that there will be a wire + connector for the PSE that will need to be disconnected.

My question - other than simply disconnecting the wire + PSE connector from the existing system (and let it hang there), is there anything else that I need to do?

Thanks in advance!

I too am planning a similar upgrade although I will first go for the decat downpipe as the AWE track edition coupled with the decat would be a bit too loud for a daily driver for my base boxter with PSE. Also are you planning to get an engine tune I've read somewhere in the forum that it is a must for a linear and smooth rev range do update on what information AWE provides regarding this install.

If you use a decatted downpipe you will have to do an ICU tune.
If you use a catted downpipe (like I have chosen to do), you will not need to do an ICU tune.

Have you considered our new Performance Exhaust which is similarly priced but built stronger with track duty in mind? We're running a Beyond Black Friday Super Sale with great pricing at the moment!

You should plug up any vacuum lines you disconnect and I would zip tie the connector up and out of the way.

A catless downpipe can be ran without a tune but you can get boost spiking and less drivability quality than if you had tuned the car - we highly don't recommend it.
