Hi all,

I know this has probably been covered before, but I just wanted to know how I could stop it happening, or clear it when it does.

I took the car out yesterday and parked it up. The sun was blazing (doesn't happen much in the UK!!) and temperatures were about 25 degrees throughout the day and I noticed the right rear lens started to mist up. As the day went on and the sun moved overhead the left lens did the same... but worse.

I then thought driving home the lens would get some air and start to clear, but the left lens was even worse by the time I got home. I put the car in the garage when I got home and checked it this morning and there's still some condensation in both lenses.

Is there a way I can clear it, and stop it happening again in the future? I've had it out before in the heat and sunshine but this is the first time I've had this in nearly a year of ownership.

Thanks,
Richard.

@fergusor condensation is normal since the light enclosures are not sealed.....though if it is concerning or more severe than is acceptable just drive it to the dealership for a quick look see. Here is a thread* that discussed this issue and let me draw your attention to post #14 of 17. Also this this article** goes into a little more depth about light fixture condensation.

Good luck and let us know if it improves/resolves and if so how long it took.

Thanks for the links, useful reading.

I got home last night and the condensation had completely cleared up. I did check it first thing in the morning and it had improved considerably.

I went out in it again last night, again a nice hot evening, but this time no condensation formed at all. Perhaps the reason I got it on Sunday was because it came out of a cooler garage into direct strong sunlight for the day.

Either way feel better now that it's cleared up and is normal (though would prefer it not to happen in the first place).

I did also see a 911 GT3 RS at the same event on Saturday and noticed that the headlights on that also had condensation in them. They were pointing in the same direction as my tail lights so must've been affected the same way.

My 718 Cayman lives in a garage normally, but last night I left it outside (actually the garage door was blocked by an MGB that wouldn't start :) ).

This morning is one of those sunny, dewy days here in northeastern USA that usually results in the taillight condensation you are referring to.

I went out and shot this photo around 6 AM and sure enough the taillight was foggy. I know it will clear out after a few hours in the sun. I wouldn't be concerned.

Glad to hear you are having sunny weather over there! (I was born in Blighty).

Here a picture of mine for the collection. Happens occasionally when I park the hot car in a cool garage. Clears up after a couple of hours always. Would also prefer it didn't happen but comes with the fancy tail light design I assume.

Mine went like that yesterday in the lovely weather we had here. Parked up outside a pub for a spot of lunch came out and they had condensation on both rear lights. The dealer says it is normal.

happens a lot, and to many vehicles i have had, even more so when i have switched to aftermarket light housings. nothing to be concerned with, it will eventually clear up if you give it time.

That's the proper form and we are talking about a proper British imperial Pint not the puny American Pint, correct?;)
Correct, except I was driving so it was a pint of Coke :(
Mrs Cay, however, Thought nothing of necking a bottle of very expensive wine during our alfresco lunch.:D

Still didn't stop the rear lights from misting up though.

Point well taken but........but........after a proper pint it certainly would be less worrisome.;)

As I am typing I am imbibing my drink of choice, diet Coke.........Cheers!
I have given up worrying about it. I have reported it to Porsche and if the light blows up because of the condensation in it then that is their problem and not mine.

Enjoy your Diet Coke. Being an Englishman a nice cup of tea is the order of the day so far.
