Hi,

I know we're heading into Summer, but I'm starting to look for a wheel and tire package for my 718 for Winter and was looking to see if anyone had recommendations for Winter tires. I currently have the Pilot Sport 4S, and they were terrible this past Winter.

Thanks in advance, appreciate any and all feedback!

I have continental winter tires. I forget the exact type. I got them from TireRack as a wheel/tire set. I've had them for two winters now and they are fantastic. In the snow the car is really stable (as long as you don't floor it.)

My dealer installed Michelin 235/40R19 on Victor Equipment Innsbruck-Silver (19") made by Butler Tires & Wheels back in November. I had no trouble on a trip to Boston this past March, no slippage, but [rode] with a firm grip on the icy and snowy roads.

The 18" Tequipment wheels (Part number: 982 044 600 02) came with Pirelli Sottozero tyres in the UK. Road noise was greatly reduced (coming from 20" shod with Pirelli P Zero's in December). They're a comfortable cruise and DD drive tyre during the colder months. The (new) tread blocks felt very fidgety at increased speed in corners. Road holding in greasy conditions was as expected. As long as you don't push the envelope it's a satisfactory solution.

I too purchased a set of Porsche Tequipment winter wheels and tires for my 718 Cayman S. The wheels (19") came with Continental ContiWinter Contact tires. I had them installed at delivery. I really like them. I was fortunate to find a set when I wanted them.

Like Nosmo, I ordered the Tequipment 98204460002,18-Inch Boxster Winter Wheel and Tire Set, which came with Sottozero tires. They work as well as expected in both wet snow, dry snow and rain. But, they're not Blizzaks. Yes, the rear end does swing out with spirited driving. I can't really say what they're like the whole winter, because I've only had the car about 6 weeks. This will be the first week it's up to 45F in the evening, so I can switch back to the wheels/original Firestones that came with the Cayman. Lots of potholes this winter and spring. While not as styling, the 18" wheel/tire set likely protect the tires better from the potholes that are sometimes as big as sinkholes.

msacks, I forgot to add: I've always used TireRack in the past with great success for our string of Minis, BMWs and Audis. But, late in the Winter season, they may run out of your particular favorite, as the amount of more affordable stock dwindles. I ordered late and was surprised to get a better (and discounted) internet price on a Tequipment Porsche set. Go figure. They were out of stock and had to be ordered from Germany. I placed the order the same day the Cayman hit Emden. The wheel/tire set got here first.
