There were some discussions about hyper reflectivity of the trim on the dashboard. However, most of the cars at dealers (including most of the GTS) are spec with base shiny trim.

Now that I have two weeks until lock date, I am starting to second guess. Wondering whether many of you would recommend spending money on painting vs leather vs brushed aluminum vs carbon vs keeping the original (if you think the reflection is no big deal.) Thanks.

My two cents - I live in southern Florida (lots of bright sun...…). My last two Caymans (2014) and current 2016 both have Luxor interiors with brushed stainless trim. While there is some reflection, I have driven these cars as DD for going on 4 years with little issue. I have not had to wear polarized sunglasses et al. I had cataract surgery a few years back and, if anything, am a bit more sensitive to glare. My 2019 Cayman was ordered with Agate interior. However, if Luxor had still been available, that is absolutely what I would have ordered as first choice (to put my money where my mouth is).

I went for leather on my Black/Chalk - just for aesthetics. If the shiny plastic, which I don't like, was blinding me with reflections, I'd be doubly pissed.

Painting - really depends on the color, and what kind of vibe you're going for in the car. Doesn't work for me.

Brushed aluminum - I think it looks good, and I'll assume it solves the reflection problem. There will be other metallic appearing trim that doesn't match it, though.

I think the carbon can look very nice. But again, not the vibe I was going for.

I am in agreement with duegatti and ordered my CS with leather just for aesthetics on a Black/Luxor beige interior. IMO the shiney plastic looks a little cheesy. It is not clear that reflection would be a problem for me but my choice was based mostly on appearance. I don't take delivery until the end of the year so final judgement yet to take place.

I would do just about anything to get rid of interior glare from trim pieces. I find it extremely uncomfortable and annoying. You should be able to get in the car, drive it on a sunny day, and have it be comfortable for your eyes.

I’ve a Boxster in CA w/ the standard trim. I drive top down all the time and have had zero issues w/ glare or reflection from. I personally don’t care for the leather trim as I like the contrast. Considered the brushed aluminum but ultimately decided it wasn’t worth the price. I’m pretty happy w/ the basic. I definitely wouldn’t be too concerned w/ glare.

To be honest, despite driving my Boxster top-down nearly 100% of the time in mostly sunny N. Calif., cabin glare is a relatively rare and momentary occurrence. When it does happen, seems like the infotainment screen is as likely the cause as the trim strips. Perhaps this is another example of something minor getting blown way out of proportion in cyberspace?

My initial thoughts as well, since it is rare that I am cruising in the same direction without any direction shift for prolonged period. Plus, I figured a tilt or shift of head would change the effect of reflection. It is the looming lock date that got me second guessing.

My 2014 Cayman had black interior with the shiny plastic trim. I would get glare from time to time but it was only annoying when driving in the same direction for a long period of time such on the interstate highway.

On my 2018 Cayman, I specified the option to paint the trim in the exterior color. I like the way this looks with the black leather and the only glare I get now is from the trim around the HVAC supply ducts (very rarely).

I live in south Florida and at certain times on almost every drive, the glare from the trim is very bright. Usually end up throwing my dust cloth over the shifter and console to knock it down. Looking at options to correct this. Love the black brushed stainless look and looking to go either that direction or carbon fiber.

It must be a deficiency in the Floridian sun--the South Australian sun never does that to me.:D
