Wanted to share something I did to reduce some of the free clutch pedal travel.
Had first ran into this useful post: https://www.718forum.com/threads/manual-trans-clutch-stop.25615/?nested_view=1&sortby=oldest#replies

One of the responses was from @monkeyofspice - where he mentioned replacing the OEM clutch pedal bumper (a bit hidden up into the pedal assembly) with some off-the-shelf generic bumpers, found in any auto parts store (Dorman 45693). I really liked this idea, so I went and got the same kit. I found it a little difficult finding the right combo of bumpers to 'snap' back into place. I ended up using the OEM bumper, and tucking it into the largest bushing of the Dorman kit. Once I popped it back into the pedal assembly, it still felt a little wobbly/loose in there, but seemed to hold in place. When starting up the car, I noticed I had to push down on the clutch pedal harder, for (possibly) the minimum pedal position to allow the key to start the car - I didn't like that. Once started, the pedal travel was definitely reduced, yet still allowed some travel before the clutch started to grab/bite. Since I didn't want to have to press the clutch harder to start-up, I cut a little bit of the bumper height, and that did the trick. I still didn't like how it fit loosely back in the pedal assembly.

I went on McMaster and looked at some of their bumpers - I found two that seemed to have the dimensions I was looking for, and once I received them in the mail, I found that one fit/functioned perfectly for what I wanted. It 'snapped' and seated into the pedal assembly nicely/securely, it reduced the free travel of the clutch enough to make a difference, but not cause it to be so short that I'd feel anxious about any possible premature clutch wear/performance (ie having virtually no free travel and grabbing as soon as I started depressing the clutch..). And it didn't require me to have to change the way I pressed the clutch in to start the car up.

This part is McMaster 9309K57. You gotta buy a bag of 'em, but still inexpensive IMO, since it improved my driving experience.

Hope this can help someone that might have experienced similar desire to adjust the clutch pedal feel. I realize the majority of 6MT owners are totally fine with the factory travel/feel.

Thanks! Yea, I can send you one. Wish I could just throw it in an envelope with a stamp, but I don't think that'll fly. I can try and message you for details now (not sure if I have permissions, as I'm a recent forum member and cayman owner).

Thank you for posting these details. I purchased the recommended bump stops and installed one today. I can confirm that it works great and made a nice improvement with the clutch travel and feel. I feel more confident shifting now!

The only drawback is when I popped the OEM bumper off it went somewhere that I couldn't find.... Not a big deal since I didn't think there would ever be any reason to switch back.

This is a great low cost high payback modification.

Considering it is the OEM location, it is definitely a better location and solution than the alternative that ajcarson11 had created.

@thats.horsche Many Thanks for this thread and information!

I was looking for a solution to the same issue, yet on my 2024 911 C2S 7MT. Thus I was searching for a different "Clutch Stop" to replace the thin rubber stop that I had seen on my 911 Clutch/Brake Pedal assembly, and came across your solution.

My first reaction was "PERFECT" -- Uses the same OEM design, stop point, etc.... And since the current 718 and 911 use the same Clutch/Brake Pedal Assembly, its the same part from McMaster-Carr that you recommend.

So, I've order a bag (yup, I'll have a bunch of spares like everyone else), and will post back on the outcome one installed.

Thanks again for sharing!!

The new Bumper Stops arrived today. Took me less than 1 minute to pop off the original rubber stop and push in the new McMaster-Carr stop. And 30 seconds of that was getting my old bones down under the dash in the drivers footwell.

The clutch pedal travel on my 2024 C2S 7MT originally stopped about 1/2" from the carpet floor. Now it stops about 3" from the floor, so a reduction in 2.5" of travel. Clutch switch for starting is still activated, and I have about 2" of travel between full press and clutch initial engagement.

So it's a big win to reduce some of the clutch pedal travel! And such a simple and elegant solution.

Many Thanks @thats.horsche

... getting my old bones down under the dash in the drivers footwell.
For others following, you may find it easier on the old bones to open the door, sit on the floor, and reach one hand in to do the swap. It's a blind operation, but easy for non-arthritic fingers.

The move is similar to the method I use to change the cabin air filter from the driver's seat.

Excellent info everyone! If someone has extras of these and wouldn't mind mailing me one, I'd greatly appreciate it and will pay the cost +shipping. I have a USA forwarding address, so easy to send one my way. Send me a PM if you can help.

This is such a perfect find. I too find the clutch travel to be a bit of a challenge to get that perfect bite every time. Combined with a slightly textured TuxMat that has a ridge right in the spot of my shoe heel, and the fact that I’m a big guy squeezed into a snug seat with some back issues and you have the perfect recipe for clutch slip-ups. I’m also in the ship of paying someone to mail/ship me a couple of their extras, I too cannot fathom buying a pack of 25 only to lose them or discard them.

I've reached out to both OP and @Rafiki, I'll also help try to coordinate for others here who need some.

Hi All,

New owner of a 2025 base cayman 6MT. Thanks for the intel on this - first real drive in the car was a bit shocking in terms of clutch travel. I ordered a bag of these from McMC, so I guess I will end up with a bunch of extras.

I'm thinking I'll send ALL of the extras to someone who needs one, and then that person can do the same for the next person...on and on. Saves one person from having to turn into a distribution center.

If anyone needs one and is cool to pass along the supply to the next person (who'll then do the same), just shoot me a message with your address.

I've been daily driving my 2024 base cayman 6MT for pretty much a year now and it's been a joy to drive. I'm so glad i did made this mod to my car right away. Clutch feel/use is super easy and intuitive/natural.

I imagine the buyer at McMaster in the last year is like...why the heck are we suddenly selling so many of these rubber bumpers?! 🍻

Just got my Boxster T 2 weeks ago as my daily driver and one of the first things I did was look for information about the excessive clutch pedal travel. Bought a bag of these and they arrived this morning. Wow what a difference. So much more intuitive starting out from a stop now.

Like others I now have several available.

Couldn't wait so ordered a pack for $34 shipped

It occurred to me while looking at how it functions in theory you could just glue something similar on top of the current rubber pad to elevate the correct height at which the clutch will engage. This bump stop of course makes it simple being a pop on solution.
