So I've researched this a lot... And I see so many answers to this, so i'm still unsure which is true.. Maybe it's different in other countries?

SPORTS MODE NO rev match
SPORTS + REV MATCH ON

CORRECT? Or does it auto rev match in SPORTS mode as well??
And if so, is there a way to code the car to turn it off besides turning off the traction control etc.

Thank you!!!

Someone still using their car (not in winter storage) might check and see if, in Individual mode, you can not select Sport or Sport+ but select both sport exhaust and sport suspension and not get the rev match.

Nope, rev matching/throttle blip is always on when the drive section is in Sport or Sport+ (even as a part of individual). I believe the GT4 and Spyder will allow it to be disabled separately.

I believe this is the case - ( I ) mode will allow PSE and PASM in normal driving mode. That is the basic function of ( I ) mode - allowing the driver to set up the various aspects of the car to their liking.

As for the rev matching a manual transmission, the driver can manually rev match it in any mode. Just have to be faster than the computer :) If the RPMs are suitable from driver input, the computer will have no need to rev match. At least it seems so when I do it and downshift. I don't hear or feel any input from the computer rev matching myself in Sport or Sport+. The auto rev matching is a feature of convenience as far as I'm concerned. It should be available in normal, where one doesn't really have to think about what they're doing, and not the Sport modes. Sort of like an automatic or PDK :ROFLMAO:

Will rev matching be off if you have it in normal mode and select sports exhaust & sport suspension? Then the only difference is the throttle response won't be as sharp correct??

It's explained here in the manual. Basically the engine is more responsive. Exactly what happens mechanically I can't say, but you feel it at the pedal and where the rubber meets the road. Among other engine specific parameters, I assume the fuel air mixture is adjusted to be richer. Maybe a timing change. The idle is higher, so a standstill start is quicker.

I'd love to hear from someone with a manual tranny and tracks alot to do an experiment on the track driving aggressively. It would be, set up Individual mode without S or S+ but with sport exhaust and PASM activated. Then confirm no rev matching (because S and S+ are off) and if throttle mapping still changes with aggressive driving just as PSM changes to accommodate the track experience. I've shown in previous posts (here's one) that PSM allows drifting on the track (and snapping back into full PSM).

Yeah...Rev matching. It's nice...but takes some of the thrill out of track days, frankly. I loved double-clutching into turn 7 at Putnam (almost 100mph down to 2nd gear while hard on brakes) and blipping with the other part of your foot. I've driven that track 100 weekends at least. I still screw that up the first few times...Then, it comes together....Then, I get it perfect...over and over...ooooh. That's nice.

Another thing I miss more is engine braking. That rev-thing kills engine braking and something in the engine also takes the fun out of it. I think it's a pollution control scheme. Apparently, downshifting then getting back on throttle causes, I don't know, particulates or something? They've had these gadgets for years to prevent the throttle from causing too high vacuum inside the engine, but before, they were analog and you could unplug them.

My '06 Cayman had engine braking...also used to destory standard AOS valves...I got the GT3 version installed. No problems, ever. I love my 718GTS, but for track days? Nah...still love the 718. ...engine braking though...would be nice. I like steering the car with the rear wheels. It's fun and gives corner workers something to look at.

Um...you don't need a track to know if the car is rev-matching...Jeez! My car has Sport Chrono and stick. It rev matches in S and S+. Only not in "Normal". Just drive the car, drop into 2nd for a right turn. Does it rev with the clutch still in or not? Yup. It does.

Thanks for the input. You may have seen me mention Putnam in earlier posts because the only tracking I've done is through the KYPCA HPDEs at Putnam. I think it is a beautiful course and so far, during both weekends, I've managed to go off the track in Turn 7. The first set of runs on my first track day I just sort of drifted off. At near the final laps on the final day on the last weekend, I managed to make around 7 but ran out of track (I even tried to power out of the issue) for a spectacular 360 (I am told). So I need to work on 7 and 10 and just get on the pedal more. I watch my track video and shout "Go!" at myself. Planning to go this year again, if it doesn't get cancelled.

I've been an instructor at Putnam for many years for Hoosier BMW club. Great group! Turn 7 is certainly a lot easier with rev-matching. With the '06 Cayman, I had to do a couple laps before getting the 4th to 2nd shift right..After that, it's just fun.

You have to practice, practice, practice. There are several acceptable lines and, after you've tried a lot of them successfully, you can choose a line depending on how the tires grab etc. No two laps are ever exactly the same. When you build up a tool-kit of options for your line, you get more confidence.

Putnam is great because most turns have lots of options and lots of run-off. As an instructor, I appreciate that runoff!!! Some tracks aren't so open. Blackhawk Farms has trees..and a tire wall that I drove my E36 M3 up one afternoon. Grattan gives me motion sickness. That leaves Autobahn CC and Gingerman...Both are just OK for me. Much more convenient to me than Putnam...but I've been to Putnam far more than the others combined. Road America is a treat, though. I try to drive it once every year.

Thanks for the encouragement @Yuro! I'm certainly working on a few different strategies for Turn 7. When I look at the pictures by the professional photographer that's always there, there is a significant helpful cant in the turn that I should be able to use. Early on, I once told my instructor that according to my dash cam video, I tend to go faster through it on the warm-up and cool-down laps than when I'm trying! His suggestion was to go in slower. He said to start my braking and get my downshift out of the way first so I can concentrate on turning in and accelerating out. Simple advice but sooooo many ways to do that. ;-) (Odd thing, I toyed with putting a picture of the turn for reference, and in the most recent batch, there's a white BMW on my ass going through the turn, so unacceptable. And in the previous weekend photos, in Turn 7, there's a different white BMW on my ass! Perhaps my driving isn't the problem after all - it's white BMWs!)
