Is anyone else experiencing a material chipping of paint on the front lower section of the rear fenders? I'll get a picture of mine when I get home this evening. But, there is a lot of nicks in the paint from kicked up road debris on both sides for me. All of my other cars appear to come with some clear plastic protection from the factory. On the Cayman, it's exposed.

I'm currently at just over 8K miles on the clock.

Yup. Got that going on behind all four wheels, but it's particularly notable behind the rears. It's not too noticeable, but I can understand why some would be bothered by it ...

... it's also to be expected on any car on which the tire tread juts out past the lowest portion of the fender. It's physics. Short of ugly fender flaps that would need to extend up the fender well a few inches, ultra-strong protective cladding (usually black), or really strong self-healing ceramic coating, it's pretty much unavoidable. Where else are those rocks gonna go?

I can understand this happening behind the wheels. Here's a shot behind my passenger side rear wheel. You can pick up some limited pits and marks from road debris being kicked up.

My issue is, I have even more pits and chips in FRONT of the rear wheels (i.e. between air intake and rear wheel). While the following image is from the passenger side, I have the same types of marks in front of the driver's side wheel.

I'm even getting chips at the air intakes.

@R Doug I have a low tolerance for chips on my Porsches but the chips on my other cars are not of much concern. On my 718 I did the full front, backs of mirrors and the rocker panels and on my 3RS I did full Suntek Ultra to include the headlights. The cost of the PPF bothers me less than the chips so it's all about your comfort level.

In addition to the front including front fenders, I had the rockets/intake panels and the kick up area done with XPel. $2,600 in PA. The other nice thing is that I am not afraid to wipe these areas down with detail spray instead of washing the whole car.

My '18 base 718 is around the same miles and the areas below the rear air intakes look similar to yours, though a bit less noticeable as my car is Night Blue metallic so the chips are somewhat camouflaged. As that piece is plastic I weighed the cost of having it wrapped vs. having it replaced/repainted at some point down the road, and it seemed more or less even from a cost standpoint. Also, there's no risk of corrosion on a plastic piece, so I'm not too upset about it. My car is a daily driver year-round in southeastern PA, so I expect to get some chips, etc. along the way.

Did Full PPF on my car. WAY too much sand, gravel, dust on our roads in Utah. I paid too much for Miami Blue to see salt and pepper on it.
