So I’ve been breaking in the Porsche and loving it but decided I’d go for a long ride with the wife in what looked to be crappy rainy weather. Ahhh heck what’s a little rain right?

About a half hour into the ride towards Glouchester MA and Oh my! The clouds opened up! No worries. Me and a bunch of cars pulled over to let the bad stuff pass. Then it got worse. It started hailing! We don’t get hail very often and of course it happens now. All I could see was pea sized ice bouncing off my car like crazy. It sounded so bad! If I was in my truck I would have laughed it off. Then the hail let up. I did a quick check and it looked fine. Phew!

Then to make things more fun, the heavy rain washed out some of the roads a bit so there was sand a debris in the streets. Oh the joy of sand and pebbles sand blasting my underside! What a day!

Dave:
Glad everything turned out OK. Hail in this area is so infrequent. Must have been scary as **** but at least it was relatively small. We had an ugly day also in NH so I kept Iris tucked away in the garage.

Happened to me last year, and a tornado touched down a 1/2 mile from my house. I live in Winsted, CT. I missed the Baseball sized hail that damaged houses in Granby, luckily
I can’t imagine the damage hail that size could do. I was stressed with pea sized pieces spraying my car!

@718S wow... decide to go for a nice drive and wham!
That must have been nasty!

You say that the car is OK and I hope thats the case.
I you haven't done it already, inspect it very closely with a bright light.
My daughter had hail hit her car and thought it was fine, but when examined closely there were hundreds of tiny pock marks.
She ended up filing an insurance claim.

Hoping that that's not the case with yours!!

Yeah I checked it real good. No marks. Except for behind the rear wheels. Grrrr.

@718S This is great advice, speaking as someone who lives in one of most hail-prone areas in the world -- not just the U.S., but the world. (Same goes for tornadoes.) North Texas has been hit by several bad ones already this year. Here, I make it a habit of checking radar whenever I plan on being out more than an hour or so.

It's doubtful pea-size hail would cause damage, but you never know. Get the car under bright artificial light and inspect the surface like you would inspect it for paint chips or swirl marks -- or like you would inspect glass for streaks.

Thanks Mike. Yeah I gave it a super good look over under bright LED flashlight. I couldn’t see a thing. Thankfully! It was seriously stressful!

Glad everything worked out OK. We moved to Dallas a few years ago and I am shocked at the amount of hail we get here...it has probably hailed in my neighborhood 4 times in the last 12 months (and i am talking golf ball size hail). The one hesitation I had about buying a nice Cayman was the hail, but I figure I will just leave it at home and take an uber to work during those days.
