Hi all! Sure need advice, insight, recommendations, etc.
I've been a Porsche driver (914, 924, 2 base Boxsters) for 40+ yrs!!! In Feb, I ordered/built my 2020 718 Base Boxster (manual, gentian blue w/blue top plus 8K of options). St Pete, FL SA initially estimated a May delivery & due to CV-19 it became an Oct delivery.
In the meantime, my spouse had a medical emergency (needs a kidney). We decided to immediately move to Phoenix (Mayo Clinic) & wait for a transplant. We arrived a week ago & figure we'll be here at least a year...maybe 2. Yesterday, I asked the St Pete SA to get Germany to send my car to Phoenix vs Sarasota (guess I was naive). He explained that he must check w/his sales mgr (on 2 week vacation) for all my options, but his understanding is that Germany's process doesn't work that way; that my options are most likely: (1) I pay an approx $1500 "inside" transport from St Pete dealership to Phoenix or (2) I pay a nominal fee If my SA can locate a Porsche dealer in Phoenix/Scottsdale who will accept my car, prep & conduct the usual protocols for new Boxster arrival (w/o benefit of making the sale).
With our new medical expenses, I'm in "whining mode" over the additional $1500 or more for transport to Phoenix.
SA sounds doubtful that he'll locate Phoenix/Scottsdale dealership to manage my new Boxster arrival. So, I'm considering I should "persuade" St Pete SA to cancel my order & refund my $2000 deposit; then I'll search for a "motivated" AZ dealership & order a 2021 base Boxster. What do y'all think? I welcome all suggestions!!!

Is driving it from FL to AZ an option for you?

One way or the other I hope your dealer in Florida will do the right thing and facilitate you getting your car at no additional cost to you (unless you negotiated a deal whereby he's losing money on the sale.) Perhaps the way to start is to call your local AZ dealer to see what they suggest. It's likely they'll be more forthcoming with ideas/options than your FL dealership who already has your money.

My best to you and your wife. I wish her a speedy recovery.

I had another thought. FL may be willing, and maybe even motivated, to trade this particular allocation to AZ in exchange for a 2021 allocation of theirs. I believe this would effectively transfer the sale to AZ. I'm not positive how those trades work, but again AZ can coach you I'm sure.

Good luck! Keep us posted!

Wonderful. I followed your prev tip to contact AZ dealers...for now, it's Tucson and Phoenix dealerships. I spoke w/sales agents fr ea who must discuss w/their sales mgrs and get back w/me. I'm learning so much & I bet you're right...the sales mgrs will work it out so they both benefit and their customer (me) is happy! Keeping my fingers crossed. You've been great! Will keep you posted.

So here's the thing - depending on how your car is spec'd you can just walk away. I'd wait until the order is locked and THEN try and negotiate. The dealership is stuck with the car at that point, and they're incentivized to help you.

It's funny, I didn't realize how it all worked until the day my car locked and the dealer was like "This is a HIGHLY optioned car - are you sure you want it? If you back out then we're stuck with it." The dealership is owned by a family friend, so I wasn't going to do that and in fact it hadn't occurred to me that I could.
