I originally wanted the GTS for the slightly bigger compressor wheel but with only 20 whp extra vs S when tuned. I will definitely be modifying the suspension as well so don't need the 20mm drop that the gts comes with as well. Probably rare track usage so not sure I need that extra radiator either. So besides that and the badge, are there any other reasons I should opt for a GTS? It seems they are a good $10K-$15K higher in the used market as well and much more rare (and yes I get the resell value will be a bit better).

Also maybe a hybrid turbo in the pipeline in the next couple of years?

The badge seems to sell more, but if you don't want those features...I got an S right when the GTS was coming out. But my S has PASM and Sport Chrono. And it also has the 14-ways. The GTS really locks you in to the config on the interior in ways I didn't like.

For most people I think there is really not much difference between S/GTS apart from the aesthetics and the performance differences are minimal.

However, I don't think it is as simple as only 20hp extra in the tuned GTS when compared to the S tune as you have that increase, along with torque, all the way from ~ 5500RPM and the differential gets a little large closer to the redline due to the slightly larger turbo. So in terms of area under the curve it is more than only 20 whp.

I'm not sure what difference this will make in real terms but if you are chasing numbers then I think maybe you are looking at fractions of seconds faster in the GTS. I believe APR have done some low 11 sec 1/4 mile runs in their stage 1 GTS but I haven't seen any results published and I believe that is with stock wheels and tires which do have traction issues. It would be impressive if they could break into the high 10s with better wheels/tires.

IMO, if you are indifferent about which one you want, then you buy the cheaper one.

I got the GTS because I specifically wanted the third radiator, the black bits and the Alcantara ( in addition to the performance options) . Otherwise I probably would be enjoying an S right now.

EDIT: WTF... I clicked new posts and this almost one year old thread came up... Sorry to have brought this zombie back to life!

For a car you plan to mod with power adders and suspension, I'd save money and look for an S with PASM+ and Sport Chrono, the two things you can't add after the fact. If they were same price, obviously the GTS would make more sense but they are not.

Turbo on either can be upgraded, and if you're like I think, you'll upgrade no matter which variant you choose. So does the turbo size matter?

I suspect the real difference between S & GTS is the Intake, which you can get from suncoast. Intake, exhaust and a tune... I think that's the holy trinity on the 2.5 engine! Also, I believe the tune from APR is the same for both S & GTS, that leads me to believe there's little difference between them... Other than factory turbo size, intake design and perhaps a slightly different factory tune.

As much as I know you can spec an s with 20" wheels, spasm, sport chrono, TV. The only thing you can't get in an S is the extra 15HP. So unless you're going for the gts 4.0, you can buy an S and spec it with all the goodies the gts has. My s is white and the most beautiful rim for a white Cayman/Boxter IMHO is the 20" black which is not available for the regular and s models. Only for the T and gts.

I ended up buying a 718 GTS as my first Porsche and happy that I did. By far the most fun car I’ve ever owned.

However, just recently I purchased a 991.2 GTS. I caught the Porsche bug and wanted more. Wish I could have kept the 718 GTS as it was a bit more fun to drive than the 991.2 GTS but my goals became different.

I hear you. The Porsche bug bites hard.

I actually took the opposite route with my recent S purchase. I thought about the GTS and one was available which I test drove, but I am using it more as a daily driver, and I actually preferred the feel of the low in torque on the turbo 4 cylinder compared to the GTS 6 cylinder, even if it sounds sweeter. My spec was more about creature comforts and less about performance options which the GTS is all about, and I really didn't like the Alcantara seats. It also saved me nearly 30k, but for someone focused on the expensive performance options, and they want to do some track time, the GTS is likely a better value and long term I would imagine a better resale.
