Wonder how these would look (and fit) in order to hold keys/phone? No dimensions shown so not sure of actual depth but may be a solution.
I have these and have to say they fit extremely well. I've not taken to using them fully yet, as I haven't needed the storage space, but I bought them during the three-year wait to get my GTS because....well.....I just HAD to start amassing Porsche-related stuff in anticipation of the car! :)

My 981 had the cubby; I have the smokers package on my 718. Observations:
  • Never seen a phone other than the old flip phones that would fit in the cubby. No way.
  • I put my iPhone in the console of the 718, which is required if you use CarPlay unless you buy a third party wireless unit.
  • I used a phone mount in the 981
  • No drinks either - it's too small and shaped wrong. The only use I ever found for the cubby was for coins for parking
  • It's coming up on a year for the 718 and I haven't used the covered cubby (which has much less room than the open one) for anything.
  • My feeling is order whatever you think looks better - both are pretty much useless.
Valid points. It'll be nice if Porsche offered iPhone docking tray there

Plug and play from Nine-Volt

If you’re phone has MagSafe definately recommend the dash mount from Rennline, very clean install, and it couldn’t be more convenient. I run a 1M cable from the console power and connects to CarPlay. Search “Rennline Magsafe 718”

Debating equipping the smokers package on my build. I like the clean look and power port. But I could also just use the power port in the footwell for the battery tender during winter. I like having a place to put my phone when driving. Is that cubby where most people put their phone without the smokers package? Looks like the cubby might also double as a place to put a small drink? Small bottle of water or cup of iced coffee?
Magsafe dash mount from Rennline. Love it, perfect positioning, easily see the screen, use cable from console. It’s right there… If you don’t have Magsafe get it! Search Rennline Magsafe 718

My phone goes in the center console, plugged in if I want CarPlay or need to charge it, otherwise not. Phone mounts are ugly, phones are clutter, and the Cayman's interior is beautiful and efficient. I've no need to spoil it with an unsightly slab that only gets in the way of something (physically or visually), no matter where I might mount it.

YMMV.

I put mine in the door pocket.
Me too.
Unless I'm going on such a long trip that the phone battery may run down. In that case I may put it in the glovebox attached to the USB plug there or on the side of my seat attached to a longer cable to the glovebox USB plug.
