I've been researching exhaust options for our cars and recently ran across a new exhaust from Soul.

Porsche 718 Boxster / Cayman Valved Exhaust System - Soul Performance ProductsSoul Performance Products

No claims of horsepower increase, just volume increase in Sport mode. I like the look of the single wall satin black exhaust tips, but don't know that I could buy something like this and not get a power bump as a result.

I really am interested in an exhaust for my GTS that's PSE compatible, but there don't seem to be many options. AWE switch path, this Soul exhaust, and what else?

Does anyone have other options to recommend?

I think many of us have been aware of the "718 Cayman T is coming!" syndrome for a while now. Personally I think it is more likely that it will be a GT4 touring model more than a T similar to the 911 range, i.e. a tarted up base model.

However, here is a video purported to be the 718 T. I think the exhaust is great. Of course one website intelligentsia swear it is NA but another site of "experts" clearly proclaim it is turbo 4. In any event, I'm holding out to find out what this is because if it is a turbo 4 I'm gong to find out how to do that to my GTS. I've heard no other aftermarket solutions that seem to sound as good to me.

Hey, thank you for considering us! I'll be making a rather in depth post about our offerings and and what is to come shortly - but here is some info:

With a rear exhaust, consider two aspects - sound quality and flow. There are several ways to control sound, each of which can affect flow and power. You can choke down the exhaust diameter - valved exhausts sometimes neck down in the areas where the exhaust flows with valves closed to control sound - but this hurts power. You can also incorporate Helmholtz resonators which when done right can be quite effective at reducing undesirable frequencies at a targeted area in the RPM range (Example). That said, it's usually effective at only a certain range and is more effective at controlling volume than tone. An X-pipe can smooth out the exhaust pulses and change tone a bit, when incorporated strategically it can increase power through increased efficiency. We are having the best results by using a good amount of high quality sound absorbing material in our Boxster / Cayman mufflers. Our mufflers main mission is to cut down on drone as much as possible while leting a refined exhaust note through - ESPECIALLY when headers / catalytic converters are modified. The free flowing design of our mufflers should not hinder power.

Realistically, anyone getting our Valved Exhaust for the 718 is not going to be taken back by how loud it is. It's PSE plus, a bit louder and more aggressive but not to a large level. At it's loudest, it is louder than PSE with a sharper, angrier exhaust note. With valves closed, it's basically as quiet as PSE. The main benefit of this system is that it pairs well with upgraded downpipes and tune. It's high flowing yet doesn't punish your ears as a result. I'd recommend our bolt in HJS HD 200 cell downpipe before the rear exhaust for PSE equipped cars as that would be a more noticeable upgrade. One of our promises to our customers is we want you to be informed, and we want you to end up with the perfect combo for you - we don't want to push you towards something you aren't happy with or weren't expecting.

We'll be looking at a single pipe design from turbo to tips in 2019. We have first hand experience with such a system, and have been taking in feedback. We're going to make it so it is as aggressive as possible while attenuating negative qualities, like rasp and drone, to the best of our ability.

We will be doing more testing and videos with various models to get a nice catalog of data. If anyone is interested in getting dyno numbers from a reputable shop, we'll pay for the dyno runs. We believe in getting third party, repeatable, realistic results and we won't be making up any power claims without proof. If you're looking for a bump in power, have you considered upgrading the downpipe first? That is where most of the power can be found.

We're happy to be here, and happy to help in any way we can.

Thanks for the discussion on exhaust.

I'm assuming you have no more info than the rest of us guessing at what is going on with the exhaust in the video I posted and was mistakenly labeled a Cayman T on Youtube. I don't think any of us really know what car that is.

But given your experience, what is your best guess with what is going on with that exhaust. 4 cyl, 6 cyl, turbo, NA? Is that something we can ever expect to get out of a 2.5 turbo 4 or do you think it is something just inherently different in the engine?

Thanks, @Semitone

You're most welcome! It really is hard to say, but it could be a turbo 4 with a different, equal length header design. That would be quite a challenge on the 718 as it sits given the low amount of space to work with under the car, but they may have changed things up. Even at full bore it sounds pretty quiet...
