(MODERATOR NOTE: The OP has removed public access to the DIY link below. 718Forum.com does NOT recommend using Dropbox as a publicly accessible photo- or media-hosting platform for several important reasons. Please stand by as we work to re-establish this popular DIY image link. Thank you for your patience.)

I just removed the infamous Soundaktor today. Here's a link to a pdf with pictures of all stages of the process. Unfortunately I can only upload 10 pictures to this site, so it had to a pdf in dropbox. Oh well, maybe the admins will make the site friendlier to use, one day. :)

Sound is way better, I think. A lot of the extra noise is gone, and the car "is just as fast as before" :)

The 'friendliest' way to incorporate photos on this forum is to embed them within posts, with the photos hosted on another site. You get 20 per post that way, for starters (and there are only 7 at that Dropbox link). See this post for instructions.

Also: I highly recommend NOT linking to a personal Dropbox account on this forum. Please host these photos on a free hosting platform such as Flickr or Imgur.

OP, I can't recommend strongly enough that you post these photos using the above method and delete that dropbox link.

If you feel that my posts pose some security risk (by linking to Dropbox) - feel free to remove them. I only tried to help. There is not a lot "technical" info out there for the 718.
Using Flickr or Imgur for this particular purpose is non-starter for me, sorry.

Why is image hosting with those two services a non-starter for you? If that's the case, use another method -- Fb even works. Any site with non-firewalled or encrypted access to the image will work. All you need is a URL that leads directly to each image.

Dropbox has had several security breaches during the past 18 months. It doesn't pose a security risk for the forum; it does for you. There are several reasons that Dropbox is not recommended for media hosting (as opposed to sharing, which is a different thing); that's one of them.

I'll put it this way: If you, or anyone who visits your Dropbox account to see those photos, ends up with security issues, this forum and its parent company will certainly be loathe to be held responsible. That's part and parcel of why I counsel against the practice.

And I'll put it another way: Any forum prefers that the images be visible within the thread, not presented as a link to another thread. That's an extra step that other members need to take to view the photos -- and there's also no guarantee that your link in, say, a year's time will lead to those photos, particularly within a multipurpose sharing/storage site such as Dropbox that charges money for tiers of storage space.

I know you're trying to be helpful, and we all appreciate that on this forum. But that can't be at the expense of appropriate forum behavior. I'm not being a Nazi here -- I'm looking out for you and everyone else who participates. I'm happy to bring @718Admin into the discussion if necessary.

Thank you.

Solid tutorial, thanks for uploading. I was curious as to how involved this process was. No lights or codes thrown without disconnecting the battery?
I have done it on both the 718 i have owned, no lights or anything.
What you disconnect is the "speaker cable"

Has this document been reposted or relinked? Would like a copy if possible. Thanks.
@GusRandall : The poster has not participated on 718Forum since this issue occurred. In other words, he's left the building.

In responses above and in a PM to him in early August (to which the OP never replied), I explained how Dropbox:
- is a file-sharing service, not a photo-sharing service
- is fee-based, so if a user decides to stop using it, the content linked to would just disappear
- is selectively password protected, so that the user can make items public or private at their discretion
- has had several severe breaches via hackers in the last 18 months
- itself advises that its content NOT be used in the manner he was using it on this forum

As a Moderator, it's part of my responsibility to police forum practices that are either unsafe or unfit for the community. This qualified as that. The OP apparently disagreed and decided to stop participating as a member. He can now endanger the privacy of himself and others on other forums.

This thread has been locked. Thank you for understanding.
