What do you use the sport chrono for? I think it is for doing a drag race start. Do you get more power when you push the button? I'm going to order my next Cayman and I don't want to spend thousands on something I will never use. I don't do DE but would you use it if you did?

By "drag race start," I assume you are referring to "Launch Control." Launch Control is a feature that you get from cars equipped SC and PDK, but there is quite a bit more, and they have to do with performance, eg, throttle, gearing, and handling enhancements. It's more impactful to drive one with and without SC than it is to read about it, although the Porsche website does its best to explain the features. All that said, for some it may not be necessary, and even more so now that, as I understand it, a Sport mode button is standard on all Caymans. (Prior to that, my opinion was it was a must-have on all.)

If you have an MT, it basically gets you a clock on you dash. I suppose it gets you rev matching too, but I didn't care for that feature. Was a pretty easy pass in my build.

Sports Chrono on an MT car gets you the Sport and Sport + w/ a more "playful" traction control setting. You also get adjustable engine mounts which firm up in the sport settings to stiffen the chassis. Also, Sports Chrono will record lap times. Once initiated, you tap (I believe) the cruise control button each time you cross the finish line to record a lap time. I've tired it before on VIR, it's a neat feature. My favorite part is the clock on the dash turns into a lap timer with the second hand counting one second each revolution instead of 60 seconds when it's acting as a clock.

In addition to the clock, etc., SC remaps the throttle to respond exponentially in sport mode rather than more linearly as it does in normal mode. The car becomes that much more responsive to small throttle inputs. Before "sport mode" became standard on all cars, this feature alone was worth the price in my opinion. It completely changes the way the car behaves.

I like the rev matching in sport mode and the sweet dial for selecting drive modes on the steering wheel. I'll probably never use the stopwatch.

Sports + is the top option on the little selector wheel as many have described already, when you push the centre button whilst in any other mode you get instant sports + for 20 seconds, it’s really an overtaking mode and I love it :D

I value Sport Chrono for the Sport+ mode, which gives me whatever performance is available, without the canned exhaust histrionics. I paddle shift in Sport+ almost exclusively. It also gives you a much more responsive automatic mode.

SC is a good way for Porsche to steal our money ;)
The package is not complete without some other stuff and it does not add any Hp in any form.

SC - Timing.
Without Connect+ our only getting the stop watch on the MDF/dash, with connect+ you can create your own track on the PCM.
You can also save your lap times on that track and export it to a computer, pretty neat when your on the track.

Sport+ compared to Sport.
Sport have a quicker respons on the throttel, sport+ have a higher boost all over but the throttel respons is more like normal.
So in a sense Sport feels quicker then Sport+ as long as you dont stay above 4500rpm all the time as on the track.
Sport+ in automatic mode will change gears in the higher region (+4500rpm)
If you have PTV it stiffens up even more in Sport+, i would love to have that in Sport........
And as mention above it changes the engine mounts and also ease off the stability control.

Sport response button.
It does not spool up the turbo as most people think.
When you press it the engine goes in to Sport+, but the rest of the car like dampers, engine mounts, PTV are still in the same mode your using.
So pressing the sport response when your in sport+ does not do anything!
But for quick overtakes it is Great, best is to press it a couple of seconds before your flooring so the boost is up.

thanks for the info: just so i understand (718 CS, PDK, PVT, PSM)--if in S+, pressing the Sport Response button will not provide additional acceleration? the situation is coming out of a corner on the track in S+, beginning a longish straight-- pressing the Sport Response button doesn't add anything? haven't had a chance to try yet.

There is a small spooling in sport+ under those circumstances.
But it is only 0.2 bar.
Pressing the button do change the pdk to "response" but what that means i dont know.
Respone in it self gives you the boost.

If you put a Apr tune on the car then it is another story :)

I dont believe that that is the case. On a PDK car, it will downshift to the lowest allowable gear for the speed. Even in Sports+ mode, it will shift into higher gears once the load is low. The button kicks it back down again.

At least, that is my experience.

Thats correct but it does not do anything magical you cant do your self.
A quick tap or two on the throttle also down shifts, or you do it with the stick/paddles.
